Katie Stratman-Imagn Images Are the Bengals a sleeper again this upcoming season? Joe Burrow said it best during his week one press conference on Wednesday afternoon, “the NFL has a short memory.” The Cincinnati Bengals went 9-8 last season but missed the playoffs and it is clear that national media has completely forgotten how talented Cincinnati is at full health. Burrow has missed two seasons due to injuries, but the two seasons he has been fully healthy for he has led the Bengals to back-to-back AFC Championship appearances. The Good Morning Football cast released their AFC playoff picture predictions earlier this week and only one member of the show had the Bengals making the playoffs… Just one… In a wildcard spot. He is the only member that projected the Bengals to make the playoffs…in a Wildcard spot. He also has the Baltimore Ravens winning the division. Four words: short-term memory loss… If this team can stay healthy, they will find themselves back in the AFC Championship game searching for another Super Bowl appearance. Simple.

Week 2 – Which College Players Are Future Vikings 2024
Photo by Grant Halverson/Getty Images Week one is in the books and there were some surprises. For me, it was surprising to see my Trojans play as well as they did against LSU. Florida State looks to be overrated as they now have lost to unranked Georgia Tech and Boston College. They can kiss the playoffs goodbye. There are not many good matchups this week. Obviously, Texas vs Michigan is the game of the week. Iowa and Iowa State are already playing the rivalry game so that could be interesting. The remaining games do have some prospects to keep our eyes on like Kentucky vs South Carolina. Deone Walker is a prime target for next year IMHO. Below are some the games that have some prospects that may be interesting. I may have missed some players so feel free to list any prospects you’d like. . Packers-Eagles preview, prediction and discussion for Week 1
Photo by Scott Taetsch/Getty Images Week 1’s NFL action continues with Green Bay against Philadelphia from Brazil. The Kansas City Chiefs opened the 2024 NFL season on Thursday night, collecting a 27-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens on GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. But Week 1’s NFL action will continue in an unusual time and place: on Friday night in São Paulo, Brazil — where the Philadelphia Eagles will host the Green Bay Packers in an NFL International Series game at Corinthians Arena. Kickoff is set for 7:21 Arrowhead Time. Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge will have the call on the Peacock streaming service, WCAU (NBC/10-Philadelphia), WGBA (NBC/26-Green Bay) and WTMJ (NBC/4-Milwaukee). Last season, both teams made the playoffs after finishing second in their divisions. The Eagles’ 11-6 record earned the fifth postseason seed, while the Packers’ 9-8 season gave them the seventh seed. Philadelphia fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 32-9 in the Wild Card round, while Green Bay beat the Dallas Cowboys 48-32 in the opening weekend before turning in a 24-21 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional round. The two teams last played in 2022’s Week 12, when the Eagles dropped the Packers 40-33 in Philadelphia. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Eagles are favored by 2.5 points. But I think the Eagles are trending down, while the Packers are trending up. I expect Green Bay to open its season with a 27-24 win over Philadelphia. What do you think? Let’s discuss tonight’s game here.

WATCH: Saquon Barkley scores first touchdown as an Eagle
Photo by Wagner Meier/Getty Images It’s so beautiful. Things did not start off great for the Eagles offense on Friday night against the Packers, but on the third drive, it started clicking. Running back Saquon Barkley broke through the line for a first down, and a few plays later, made a beautiful catch down field for a touchdown. We didn’t get to see much of the offense during the preseason, but it’s pretty obvious that Barkley is set to have a massive role. This angle of @Saquon‘s first TD as an Eagle Sǎo Paulo rockin’ : #GBvsPHI on Peacock pic.twitter.com/C8gxS3h9O0 — NFL (@NFL) September 7, 2024 Aside from the production, it’s important for Barkley and Jalen Hurts to start building their chemistry as quickly and as early as possible, so it’s good to see the RB get so many touches in the first half of the game. Hopefully that connection continues to evolve, and as other guys get more involved, they’re able to do some different things and stay multiple — something they didn’t do last season.

Saquon Barkley slips in first carry for the Eagles
Photo by Scott Taetsch/Getty Images Not. Great. Since the moment news dropped that Saquon Barkley was signing with the Eagles, everyone has waited with bated breath to see the RB on the field with this offense. The Eagles defense forced the Packers to punt the first drive of Friday night’s international game, and then Barkley and the offense took the field. Jalen Hurts got the snap from Cam Jurgens, turned and pitched the ball to Barkley to his left, who immediately tried to take a step but instead slipped and fell on his front for a loss of five yards. Saquon Barkley’s first carry as a member of the Eagles is a 5-yard loss after slipping. pic.twitter.com/PaQjztR8vY — Doug Rush (@TheDougRush) September 7, 2024 The slippery field conditions were reported ahead of the game, and players had to decide which cleats to wear after warmups. Didn’t seem to matter much, Barkley was hardly the only player sliding, even Packers QB Jordan Love lost his footing several plays later. Not only did Barkley’s big debut fall flat, but Hurts followed it with a too-high pass to A.J. Brown, and then a wildly underthrown pass to DeVonta Smith that was intercepted by Green Bay. That was it. That was what we’ve all been waiting for. The Eagles offensive starters didn’t play in the preseason, but this drive did not do much to install a whole lot of confidence. Their second drive didn’t fare much better, and Jurgens snapped the ball to soon resulting in yet another turnover. Two for two. Great.
Friday Night Football, Week 1: Packers vs. Eagles open thread
Photo by Bruno Escolastico Sousa Silva/NurPhoto via Getty Images Browns fans can also use this as an open thread. The NFL makes its debut in Brazil with a special edition of Friday Night Football in Week 1, as the Green Bay Packers take on the Philadelphia Eagles. Browns fans may recall that Cleveland was once rumored to be involved in this game, but it ultimately went to the Packers-Eagles. As far as the game goes, South America is getting a top-notch match-up. After a 3-6 start to last season, the Packers won 6 of their final 8 games before upsetting the Cowboys in the playoffs and losing a late lead to the 49ers. Jordan Love has shown a lot of promise to turning the Packers into the regular contender they were under Aaron Rodgers. The Eagles, meanwhile, were 10-1 last year before finishing the season at 11-6. They still made the playoffs, but couldn’t shake their big slump, as they were blown out by the Buccaneers 32-9. It’s a fresh season, but the Eagles still need to figure themselves out. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Eagles are 2.5 point favorites against the Packers. With the momentum each team had at the end of last year and this being a neutral site, I like the Packers straight up, which means I’ll also take the points: Packers 24, Eagles 20. The rest of the DBN staff picks for the game are below. You can use this as your open thread for the game.
Eagles-Packers NFL in Brazil game thread
Eric Hartline-Imagn Images Will the Eagles or Packers win the NFL’s first game in Brazil? The NFL will be hosting its first ever game in Brazil on Friday Night when then Philadelphia Eagles take on the Green Bay Packers. Following the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night for the season opener, this is another game that could have serious playoff implications at the end of the season. Last season, the Eagles started 10-1 before dropping six of their final seven games, including their playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Head coach Nick Sirianni completely re-hauled the coaching staff, bringing in Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio. Additionally, they signed former New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley to help out in the running game. The offense will need to figure out how to operate without Jason Kelce at center, but this is still one of the NFC’s best teams. On the other side, the Green Bay Packers led the San Francisco 49ers 21-14 heading into the fourth quarter of the NFC Divisional Round. However, they gave up 10 unanswered and fell 24-21. Heading into his second year as the starter, Jordan Love looks to be one of the better young quarterback and proved so by signing a large contract in the offseason. According to Fanduel Sportsbook, the Eagles are favored by 2.5 points. This will be a game with two talented young quarterbacks going at it. For the Eagles, this will be an opportunity for them and head coach Nick Sirianni to set the tone for the year with a big win. How they come out in Brazil after last season’s collapse will certainly be interesting. The Packers are going to be one of the better teams in the NFC and Matt LaFleur gives an edge in the coaching department. However, the Eagles may have too much firepower offensively. In international games, the quality of the field is always a concern and that may lead to more chaos than normal. Still, expect the Eagles to start the year on a high note. The Pick: Eagles (-2.5)
Ravens season opening loss to Chiefs on NBC was most watch NFL kickoff game ever
The NFL is big business, and that business really booms when star power is involved in huge matchups. The NFL’s season-opening kickoff game featured the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of last winter’s AFC Championship game, which the Chiefs won, 17-10. The rematch on NBC and Peacock set records on Thursday night, peaking at almost 29 million viewers, the network announced on Friday before the Eagles and Packers showdown. A rematch of last season’s AFC Championship Game headlined by star quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, Ravens-Chiefs averaged an NFL Kickoff Game-record Total Audience Delivery (TAD) of 28.9 million viewers on NBC and Peacock, based on live plus same day custom fast nationals from Nielsen and digital data from Adobe Analytics. Ravens-Chiefs topped viewership for last year’s NFL Kickoff Game opener by 5% (27.5 million for Lions-Chiefs). NBC Sports’ coverage peaked at 33 million viewers in the second quarter (between 9:30-9:45 p.m. ET). The Average Minute Audience (AMA) for last night’s live stream via Peacock, NBC Sports Digital platforms, and NFL Digital platforms, was 4.6 million viewers – the 2nd most simulstreamed NBC NFL game ever, topping three NBC Super Bowls (trailing only Super Bowl LVI in 2022) – and up 65% from last year’s NFL Kickoff Game (2.8 million). Kansas City and Baltimore were the top markets, but all the AFC North cities like Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland played a major role in the record-breaking viewership.
