Colts Reacts Survey: Jet-bound to New York
Photo by Justin Casterline/Getty Images Can the Colts rebound with Anthony Richardson reinstated into the starting lineup? How are you feeling, Colts fans? Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Indianapolis Colts fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys. The Indianapolis Colts (4-6) travel to the New York Jets (3-7), hoping to shake off any lag and keep their playoff hopes airborne. It’s a game that the Colts really need, considering they’ve now lost three in a row and host the NFC leading Detroit Lions (8-1) next week. The Colts are currently on the outside, looking in, as the AFC’s #8 seed, but remain in the thick of things in the midst of the playoff hunt—with a solid stretch of football still left. Of course, the big news on Wednesday was that 2nd-year quarterback Anthony Richardson has been reinserted into the starting lineup—after a two week benching because of a “learning lesson” regarding his lack of preparation and attention-to-detail as ‘QB1.’ The 22-year-old quarterback will be squaring off against 40-year-old Jets veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, meaning there’s quite the age gap. Rodgers has recently been reunited with his favorite target with the Green Bay Packers, Davante Adams, so the Jets are a little scarier than they’ve been offensively to begin 2024. Still, they have yet to galvanize under new interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, so this is a winnable road game for Indianapolis. How are you feeling, Colts fans? Do the Colts snap the streak this week? Who’s to blame for the franchise’s struggles? Please take our survey
Gardner Minshew remains Raiders’ starting quarterback
Gardner Minshew | Sam Greene/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Team declines to turn to Desmond Ridder after the bye Desmond Ridder replaced Gardner Minshew the last time the Las Vegas Raiders played. Yet, Minshew will remain the starter as the team returns from its bye week Sunday at the Miami Dolphins. Kickoff is at 10 a.m. PT. It seemed logical that the Raiders would give Ridder a chance to start after the bye for the 2-7 Raiders. Minshew has been replaced three times this season and he leads the NFL in turnovers. This seemed like the perfect time to give Ridder, who has started 17 games for the Atlanta Falcons, a chance as the Raiders begin the Scott Turner era as the interim offensive coordinator as he replaced Luke Getsy, who was fired after a Week 9 loss at the Cincinnati Bengals. Yet, Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce said Wednesday the coaching staff thinks Minshew gives the team the best chance to win and Pierce said the team needs to show confidence in Minshew, who was signed to a two-year contract as a free agent in March. He beat out Aidan O’Connell in training camp. “Gardner gives us the best opportunity to move forward ,,, what do we got to lose at his point. We’re 2-7,” Pierce said Wednesday. Ridder must look awful in practice. No other reason makes sense. #Raiders — Bill Williamson (@BWilliamsonNFL) November 13, 2024 Ridder replaced Minshew in a Week 9 loss at Cincinnati before the bye. Ridder was 11 of 16 for 74 yards in the game. Sunday will be Ridder’s third game with the Raiders since they signed him off of the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad in October after O’Connell broke his thumb. O’Connell is eligible to come off the injured reserve November 29 at the Kansas City Chiefs. O’Connell was hurt in his second game after being named the starter. We will see what happens at the position in the next two games before that.
One more time: Taron Johnson’s ‘Play of the Week’ in Bills vs. Colts
One more time: Taron Johnson’s ‘Play of the Week’ in Bills vs. Colts One more time: Taron Johnson’s ‘Play of the Week’ in Bills vs. Colts Nick Wojton The Buffalo Bills have a huge clash upcoming against the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s the Game of the Week in the NFL’s Week 11 slate. But before we fully put our attention on that next contest, let’s take one more look back at the “Play of the Week” in Week 10. Truly, because Bills cornerback Taron Johnson was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week following his team’s 30-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts… and one massive play from him went a long way into winning that honor. On the first snap the Colts conducted on offense, Johnson notched a pick-six interception on quarterback Joe Flacco. Check out Johnson’s effort one more time in the clip below: Read all the best Bills coverage at the Democrat and Chronicle and Bills Wire.
Vikings @ Titans: First Injury Report
Photo by Johnnie Izquierdo/Getty Images First glimpse into the injury status for each team The Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans issued their first injury reports of the week in advance of their Sunday matchup in Nashville. Here they are: Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Darnold, Right Hand, Limited RB Aaron Jones, Ribs, Limited OLB Gabe Murphy, Knee, Limited TE Josh Oliver, Wrist/Hand, Limited LT Cam Robinson, Foot, Limited OLB Andrew Van Ginkel, Hip, Limited LB Blake Cashman, Elbow, Full S Theo Jackson, Hand, Full LB Ivan Pace Jr., Knee, Full In his press conference today, Kevin O’Connell didn’t have any real injury concerns and was generally more upbeat about their injury situation. It sounds like everyone on the list is dealing with a minor injury that isn’t likely to keep them out on Sunday. Gabe Murphy is listed as he’s in his return from IR window, but not sure when they’ll feel the need/readiness to activate him, which would require a corresponding roster move. Tennessee Titans OLB Arden Key, Back, Did Not Practice (DNP) CB Roger McCreary, Knee, DNP RB Tony Pollard, NIR- Rest, DNP DT Jeffrey Simmons, NIR-Rest, DNP L’Jarius Sneed, Quad, DNP Leroy Watson, Back, DNP DB Justin Hardee, Groin, Limited For the Titans, Sneed remains their biggest concern. L’Jarius Sneed is a starting corner and has missed a few games with a quad injury. It sounds like it is a more extensive injury than originally thought, and although he’s missed several games, there still is no timetable for his return and he hasn’t been able to practice. It was initially thought to be a quad bruise, but was later diagnosed as a quad strain, which seemingly has a longer timeframe to return. It would seem unlikely at this point that he’ll play on Sunday. Titans head coach Brian Callahan said he expected everyone else on the Titans injury list to play on Sunday, as they’re either dealing with minor injuries or are having a rest day. We’ll see how things develop as the week progresses, but right now no major concerns for the Vikings and really only one for the Titans in Sneed.
Rams Stock up, Stock down: Jonah Jackson may not be the answer at center
Photo by Amy Lemus/NurPhoto via Getty Images Jonah Jackson may not be what the Rams need him to be at center The Los Angeles Rams suffered a frustrating loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 10. While there were a few silver linings, the loss was filled with plenty disappointing performances. One of those being free agent signing Jonah Jackson. Here is this week’s stock up, stock down. Stock Down: OL Jonah Jackson The Rams signed Jonah Jackson to help take their offensive line to another level. There was some thought that if this unit played to their best, this could be a top-5 offensive line. To say the least, that has not been the case. Jackson missed the majority of the offseason, leaving the Rams more confident to move Steve Avila back to left guard after practicing at center all summer. Jackson was moved to center and hadn’t played there since his sophomore year at Rutgers. It may take time for the offensive line to gel, but Jackson was not good at center against the Lions after Beaux Limmer was a standout at that spot in recent weeks. It’s now or never time for Jackson. If he is going to be the Rams’ center, he is the second-highest paid player at that position in the NFL. He needs to play like it. Stock Up: LB Christian Rozeboom and Omar Speights Christian Rozeboom had a career-type day against the Dolphins on Monday Night football. He had an interception that should have set the Rams up for points. He nearly had another one as well later in the game. While it’s not perfect, Rozeboom’s deficiencies haven’t been as noticeable over the last few games. On the other end, the Rams may be getting more confident in what Speights can do. While he only played seven defensive snaps against the Seahawks, he played in 39 snaps on Monday Night. It’s a small sample of just 66 snaps, but since taking over at linebacker for the Rams, Speights is the ninth-highest graded linebacker against the run via PFF and fifth-best linebacker overall. Stock Down: RB Kyren Williams Following this season, there will be a lot of talk about whether or not the Rams should sign Kyren Williams to an extension. This isn’t an argument for or against that, but the Rams need more from their starting running back. Williams had the third-lowest rush EPA in Week 10 which was highlighted by a fumble in scoring range. He has 10 carries of 10 or more yards this season which ranks 29th among running backs. Williams is a key piece of the Rams offense, but the Dolphins defense is one that he should be able to take advantage of and for most of the game, he was ineffective. Stock Up: EDGE Jared Verse It’s going to get to a point pretty soon where it almost becomes boring to talk about how good Jared Verse is. The crazy part is that he is only a rookie. Verse was on the verge of taking over this game in primetime. He had a sack and forced a fumble. He also had six pressures against an offense that tends to get rid of the ball extremely quickly. Verse is on the vere of stardom. This offseason the Rams needed to find a way to fill the void left by Aaron Donald. This is not to say that Verse is as good as Donald, but he’s filled that void in the sense that he’s a superstar on the defense. Stock Down: Rams playoff chances The Rams playoff chances took a nosedive following the loss to the Dolphins. To make the postseason, they can potentially lose one more game. Given how the tiebreakers have shaken out, it’s likely they would need help if they finish 10-7. Their clearest path to the playoffs is by winning the NFC West and they are now two games behind the Arizona Cardinals. Their playoff odds are down to 29 percent following the loss to the Dolphins. Going on any sort of run would require some level of consistency and that’s just not something that they’ve been able to do this year. Anything is possible, but that just doesn’t seem like the case for this team.
Bengals vs. Chargers Injury Report: Tee Higgins limited; Khalil Mack and Orlando Brown Jr. DNP
Jeff Lange / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Positive movement on the injury front. The Cincinnati Bengals were back on the practice field Wednesday as they started preparing for a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. A few key players are dealing with injuries, but hopefully, they can work their way back onto the field this week. Joe Burrow has been on the report all year for receiving treatment on his right wrist, but this week, a left biceps injury was added to the report. Burrow was still a full participant in practice. Wide receiver Tee Higgins (quad) did not participate in team drills at practice but did work with trainers on the rehab field and was listed as limited. Media members who saw practice said Higgins was running sprints and doing work on a footwork ladder. There’s a real chance he will make his return this week, barring any setbacks. Offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. (knee/fibula) did not participate in practice or work with trainers, as he was not in uniform at all. Brown was with the offensive line watching, but that is the extent of his participation. Head coach Zac Taylor noted that both players did participate in Wednesday morning’s walkthrough, which is expected of anyone who intends to play. Wide receiver and return specialist Charlie Jones was also on the rehab field Wednesday. Jones did not participate in practice, but his getting work off to the side is still a good sign of his progress. Defensive tackle BJ Hill (groin) did not practice. Hill suffered the injury in the Week 10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Hill still has a path to suit up on Sunday, so he will be a name to watch. Star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson (neck) was limited, as was linebacker Logan Wilson (quad). Linebacker Joe Bachie (hip) also sat out Wednesday. For the Chargers, the big storyline is Khalil Mack (groin) getting a DNP. He played just four snaps last week vs. Tennessee before exiting, so it looks like he’s in real danger of missing this game. Former Bengals tight end Hayden Hurst was listed as getting a personal day off. Everyone else was able to practice, though key players like Joey Bosa (hip), Gus Edwards (ankle), Trey Pipkins (ankle), and Kristian Fulton (hamstring) were limited. Is There a Chance the Vikings Bench Sam Darnold?
We want to know what you think Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Minnesota Vikings fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys. It is, once again, time to take the pulse of Minnesota Vikings fans by asking them what they think about things that are happening with the team. This week, we’ve only got a couple of questions for you, because. . .well, we’d rather not talk about what we saw this past Sunday anymore, because that was ugly. We have our standard question about whether or not you think the team is moving in the right direction. Yes, the team won this past weekend but it was pretty darn ugly and might not inspire a lot of confidence in folks, so I’m curious to see what happens to our number for this week. The other question has to do with the play of quarterback Sam Darnold. Over the past two weeks, Darnold has been responsible for six turnovers (five interceptions and a lost fumble that was returned for a touchdown). Yes, the Vikings won both of those games because of Brian Flores’ defense and the fact that both opposing offenses were stunningly inept. Yes, those things are probably connected in some way. But do you think there’s any chance that the Vikings send Darnold to the bench for any reason other than injury? There isn’t really a whole lot behind him, to be honest, since we all know that current backup Nick Mullens has his own issues with giving the football to the other team. J.J. Mccarthy isn’t an option for this season, so the Vikings are either rolling with Darnold or turning to Mullens at some point. As always, we invite you to vote in our survey for this week and make your voice heard in the comments section. We will have the results of this week’s survey up sometime before Sunday’s game in Tennessee. Have at it, everybody! Please take our survey
Dolphins waive LB David Long Jr., claim former Eagles TE Jack Stoll off waivers
Sam Navarro-Imagn Images David Long Jr. had missed 14 tackles through six games this season. The Miami Dolphins continue to reshape the linebacking group after signing former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Tyrel Dodson on Tuesday. Linebacker David Long Jr. was waived on Wednesday after not playing for the past two weeks. Long, who stepped in as a stout run defender and tackler last season after four years with the Tennessee Titans, struggled to carry that momentum into 2024. His final appearance with the Dolphins was in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals, where he missed four tackles and was targeted eight times in coverage, allowing eight receptions for 93 yards, per PFF. Long recorded three or more missed tackles in six of his eight starts this season. Former Cleveland Browns linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. took over his role alongside Jordyn Brooks and has 19 total tackles, an interception, and one missed tackle in eight quarters since. The roster move allowed Miami to claim tight end Jack Stoll off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles. Stoll, an undrafted free agent in 2021, played in 17 games in each of the past two seasons, totaling 16 catches on 22 targets for 161 yards. Stoll appeared in seven games this season, catching two of three targets for 10 yards, and is also a stout blocker. He’s blocked on 156 of 201 snaps without allowing a sack this season, per PFF. Stoll steps in for Tanner Conner, who was placed on injured reserve earlier this week due to a knee injury, and joins a tight end room that includes Jonnu Smith, Julian Hill, and Durham Smythe.
Phinsider Question Of The Day: Predictions For Las Vegas Raiders @ Miami Dolphins
Photo by Kevin Sabitus/Getty Images Following their cross-country trip to face the Los Angeles Rams, which resulted in a Monday Night Football victory, our Miami Dolphins return for a home game. This week, the Phins will host the Las Vegas Raiders. If Miami hopes to keep its playoff hopes alive, it will need to continue the win streak it began last weekend. The Raiders, for their part, are only 2 and 7 on the season and are coming off a five-game losing streak. Las Vegas faced off last weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals in a game in which they dropped 41 to 24. So this evening’s Phinsider Questions Of The Day are: A) What will be the final score in this week’s Miami Dolphins game against the Las Vegas Raiders? B) What other predictions do you have for the upcoming game against the Raiders? (stars of the game, etc.) Please give us your thoughts and answers in the comments section below-
