Michael Mayer | Photo by Brooke Sutton/Getty Images 2nd-year tight end has been out 6 games Las Vegas Raiders second-year tight end Michael Mayer is active Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. The second-year tight end was designated for return by the team Tuesday as he has returned to practice and he was activated to the 53-man roster Saturday. The Raiders put the 2023 second-round pick on the reserve/non-football injury list October 11 due to a personal reason. Prior to that, Mayer has missed two weeks of practices and games. He missed the past six games. Mayer had four catches for 21 yards in the first three games of the season. He had 27 catches for304 yards as a rookie in 2023. The Raiders traded up to take Mayer with the 35th pick of the draft. The Raiders’ plan to use Mayer often in a double tight end set with rookie sensation Brock Bowers. Meanwhile, center Andre James (ankle), cornerback Nate Hobbs (ankle) and backup guard Cody Whitehair (ankle) are inactive as expected. Backup tight end Harrison Bryant (ankle) is also out. Las Vegas Raiders @ Miami Dolphins Open Live Thread & Game Information
Photo by Kevin Sabitus/Getty Images Following an ugly stretch of three games that appeared winnable but that our Miami Dolphins lost, they bounced back last weekend, playing a complete game. By complete game, I mean that the offense looked solid, as did the defense in the same game against the Los Angeles Rams. After traveling cross country for a primetime game, the Dolphins returned home with a much-needed 23 to 15 win. Despite the excitement created by a solid win, the Phins will now have to go on a run of victories to have any hope of staying in the playoff run this season, making today’s game yet another “must-win”. Miami’s opponent this afternoon, the Las Vegas Raiders, began the season with high hopes of making the playoffs. The Raiders even went out in the offseason and made some splash moves, including signing former Miami Dolphin defensive tackle Christian Wilkins to a giant contract. The Raiders have all but fallen on their faces this season. Some of that is due to a rash of injuries, but I expect the offseason will undoubtedly see some significant changes to their front office and coaching staff. The Raiders are coming off a five-game losing streak, including their loss last weekend to the Cincinnati Bengals, 41 to 24. Raiders vs Dolphins inactive players announced: Terron Armstead availability update
Photo by Michael Owens/Getty Images The Dolphins are facing injuries across their offensive line. Will Terron Armstead be available on Sunday or will there be another change against the Raiders? The Miami Dolphins have had to shake up their offensive line as injuries have begun to mount. Right tackle Austin Jackson is on injured reserve, pushing Kendall Lamm into the starting lineup. Left tackle Terron Armstead, who has battled with injuries every season of his career, is dealing with a knee injury as the Dolphins prepare to face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, an injury that had Armstead questionable on the final injury report for the week. It appears Miami will have their Pro Bowl tackle on the field, however. As the teams have released their respective inactive players list for the game, Armstead’s name was not included on the Dolphins’ listing. Armstead has been a solidifying presence on Miami’s offensive line throughout his three seasons with the team; having him in the lineup is a huge bonus for the Dolphins as they try to turn last week’s win over the Rams into a winning streak against the Raiders. It was not all good news for Miami on the inactive list, however, as Pro Bowl fullback Alec Ingold remains off the field with a calf injury. Like Armstead, Ingold had been questionable on the injury report, but he will now miss his second-straight game. Also inactive are running back Jeff Wilson, Jr., cornerback Ethan Bonner, cornerback Kendall Fuller, linebacker Mohamed Kamara, offensive lineman Andrew Meyer, and wide receiver Dee Eskridge. Fuller had been ruled out of the game as he deals with a concussion. The Raiders’ side of the inactive list included running back Dylan Laube, safety Trey Taylor, cornerback Nate Hobbs, guard Cody Whitehair, center Andre James, tight end Harrison Bryant, and defensive tackle Zach Carter. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern from Miami Gardens’ Hard Rock Stadium.
How to watch Raiders vs Dolphins in Week 11: Online stream, TV channel, odds, more
Photo by Kevin Sabitus/Getty Images The Miami Dolphins return home in Week 11 to host the Las Vegas Raiders. How can you watch the game? We have everything you need to know. The 2024 season has not been ideal for the Miami Dolphins, but they may have finally figured out their issues with a Week 10 Monday Night Football win over the Los Angeles Rams. The win moved Miami to 3-6 on the year and kept their AFC playoff picture chances alive, but there is still a ton of work left to do this season if they want to change that chance into an actual position. If they are going to continue the positive feeling that seems to be surrounding the team right now – the fan confidence in the direction of the Dolphins jumped this week – they are going to have to backup last week’s win with a second-straight victory this weekend. Standing between them and that win are the Las Vegas Raiders, who head into Miami coming off their bye week and looking to end a four-game losing streak. Will Miami be able to turn last week’s win into a winning streak? Will the Raiders pull off the upset on Sunday afternoon? Za’Darius Smith shows up to Lions debut with nod to Pistons ‘04 championship
Detroit Lions via X/Twitter WATCH: Detroit Lions new EDGE Za’Darius Smith showed up to Ford Field sporting a Rasheed Wallace jersey. After a trip to the NFC Championship game last year, where the Detroit Lions ended coming up just short of their first ever trip to the Super Bowl, the team adopted a new mantra: “It takes more.” The season-ending injury suffered by Aidan Hutchinson in Week 6 punctuated a slew of injuries Detroit had incurred along their defensive line and meant it would take more from the team’s depth and coaching staff to keep the pressure on opposing offenses. Either that or it would take some more work from general manager Brad Holmes to make a few phone calls. The trade deadline acquisition of Za’Darius Smith by the Detroit Lions was a move everyone and their mother was expecting to happen, but when it finally did, the growing concerns about the defense’s lack of pass rush were put on the back burner. The Lions had added their missing piece in their quest for a championship, much like another Detroit team did 20 years ago. On February 19, 2004, the Detroit Pistons traded for veteran power forward Rasheed Wallace. After losing to the New Jersey Nets in the Eastern Conference Finals in the previous year, the move to add Wallace ultimately helped the Pistons get over the hump and win their franchise’s third NBA title. Despite it hovering around 50 degrees prior to game time, Smith showed up to his Lions debut in a Wallace jersey as he entered the stadium, full of smiles and enthusiasm that has already endeared him to this city—and seemingly embracing his role as the team’s “missing piece” to a championship. Oh let’s goooooo@DetroitPistons @zadariussmith pic.twitter.com/j5Le6NX1eX — Detroit Lions (@Lions) November 17, 2024 Since Smith has arrived to Detroit, the intangibles of the veteran defender have been on full display. During last week’s game against the Houston Texans, Smith was visible on the sidelines, coaching up players with a tablet in hand. During the postgame coverage of the same game, Smith voiced his appreciation for Dan Campbell honoring the veteran defender’s bye week even though he was adamant he wanted to be out there on the field. Today’s matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars is Smith’s 133rd career NFL game. He enters today’s contest with 65.0 career sacks, 82 tackles for loss, and 165 quarterback hits.
Detroit Lions Week 11 rooting guide for NFC playoff standings
Photo by Steven King/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images Here are all the outcomes for Week 11 you should be rooting for to improve the Detroit Lions’ odds for the No. 1 seed. This week’s Detroit Lions rooting guide is a little shorter than normal. Two NFC contenders already played this week with the Philadelphia Eagles taking down the Washington Commanders. That result was pretty much a push for the Lions’ chances at the No. 1 seed, although one playoff odds model said it helped Detroit’s odds by a smidge. With those two teams already in the books for Week 11—plus with the Cardinals and Buccaneers on their bye week—here’s a shortened version of our rooting guide. Take a look: Packers (6-3) at Bears (4-5) — 1 p.m. ET — FOX Root for: Bears The Bears look like they’re on life support after a pathetic showing against the Patriots that got their offensive coordinator fired. Maybe they get an interim OC bump, and that would be nice since the Packers are still very much a threat in the NFC North. A Bears win would also prove that the Lions Hangover can survive a bye week. Vikings (7-2) at Titans (2-7) — 1 p.m. ET — CBS Root for: Titans This seems unlikely, but the Vikings nearly lost to a 2-7 Jaguars team last week. Minnesota remains the most dangerous team in the division, so a third loss would be huge for the Lions’ chances at the division. Rams (4-5) at Patriots (3-7) — 1 p.m. ET — FOX Root for: Patriots The Lions essentially have a five-game lead on the Rams, so this game doesn’t matter all that much. And with Los Angeles dropping a must-win game last week against the Dolphins, there’s not much hope for them anyways, even if they pick up a win this week. Falcons (6-4) at Broncos (5-5) — 4:05 p.m. ET — FOX Root for: Broncos AFC over NFC, as always. Atlanta hasn’t looked very impressive as of late, but in a poor NFC South, they are the clear favorite, having swept the Buccaneers. I don’t think Atlanta is a legitimate threat to the No. 1 seed, but a loss would pretty much cement that. Seahawks (4-5) at 49ers (5-4) — 4:05 p.m. ET — FOX Root for: Seahawks The 49ers seem like a sneaky-dangerous team now that they’re getting healthy. They’ve got a long ways to go to climb to the top of the NFC, but they’ve won three of their last four games, and they’ll have a chance to take down some top NFC teams with the Packers, Lions, and Cardinals still on the schedule. Considering Detroit has the tiebreaker over Seattle, a Seahawks win is relatively harmless for the Lions. NFC playoff standings if results go Detroit’s way + Lions win NFC North: Lions: 9-1 Vikings: 7-3 Packers: 6-4 Bears: 5-5 Detroit would have a commanding lead should the Vikings and Packers lose. A two-game lead (plus tiebreaker) on Minnesota, and a three-game lead (plus tiebreaker) on Green Bay. Couldn’t ask for much better than that within a division where everyone would theoretically be .500 or better. NFC standings: Lions: 9-1 Eagles: 8-2 Cardinals: 6-4 Falcons: 6-5 Wild Card race (top three advance) 5. Vikings: 7-36. Commanders: 7-47. Packers: 6-4t-8. Seahawks: 5-5t-8. 49ers: 5-5t-8. Bears: 5-5t-11. Rams: 4-6t-11. Buccaneers: 4-6 If the chips fall this way, the NFC temporarily becomes a two-team race between the Lions and Eagles, with only the Vikings a game behind the pair. That’s a pretty comfortable lead for both teams, although both Detroit and Philly have tough remaining schedules beyond Week 11. Take a look: Detroit: at Colts (4-6) vs. Bears (4-5) vs. Packers (6-3) vs. Bills (8-2) at Bears (4-5) at 49ers (5-4) at Vikings (7-2) Total opponent record: 38-27 Philadelphia: at Rams (4-5) at Ravens (7-3) vs. Panthers (3-7) vs. Steelers (7-2) at Commanders (7-4) vs. Cowboys (3-6) vs. Giants (2-8) Total opponent record: 33-35 In other words: lotta ballgame left.

The Detroit Lions (8-1) have declared their inactives ahead of the Week 11 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-8). Sunday viewing guide: How to watch NFL Week 11 games
Kirby Lee-Imagn Images What is on in your area today The New York Giants are on their bye week, which means Giants fans are taking a week off from suffering through a disappointing season. There is, though, a full slate of games on Sunday. Here are the matchups, game times, TV channels and what is being televised where you live. Use this as an open thread to discuss the afternoon action. 1 p.m. Green Bay Packers (6-3) at Chicago Bears (4-5)TV: FOX — Kevin Burkhardt, Tom Brady, Erin Andrews (field reporter), Tom Rinaldi (field reporter) The Bears had the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and selected quarterback Caleb Williams. The rookie QB’s struggles are a reminder that there are no guarantees in the draft, no matter where you are selecting. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-8) at Detroit Lions (8-1)TV: CBS — Kevin Harlan, Trent Green, Melanie Collins (field reporter) A win by Jacksonville, which has the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, would help the Giants. It isn’t happening. Las Vegas Raiders (2-7) at Miami Dolphins (3-6)TV: CBS — Tom McCarthy, Jay Feely, Ross Tucker, Tiffany Blackmon (field reporter) The Raiders might not be tanking for Shedeur Sanders, but Sanders to Las Vegas sure seems like a fit. Los Angeles Rams (4-5) at New England Patriots (3-7)TV: FOX — Adam Amin, Mark Sanchez, Kristina Pink (field reporter) If you have to watch this game at least you get to see the quarterback the Giants tried to talk the Patriots out of last spring. Cleveland Browns (2-7) at New Orleans Saints (3-7)TV: FOX — Kenny Albert, Jonathan Vilma, Megan Olivi (field reporter) The Giants play the Saints in Week 14. You can do some early scouting. Indianapolis Colts (4-6) at New York Jets (3-7)TV: CBS — Andrew Catalon, Tiki Barber, Jason McCourty, AJ Ross (field reporter) As bad as things seem for Giants fans right now, it has to be worse for a Jets fan. They had Super Bowl dreams for this season. Baltimore Ravens (7-3) at Pittsburgh Steelers (7-2)TV: CBS — Ian Eagle, Charles Davis, Evan Washburn (field reporter) If Russ keeps cookin’, could the Giants talk the Steelers out of Justin Fields this offseason? Minnesota Vikings (7-2) at Tennessee Titans (2-7)TV: CBS — Spero Dedes, Adam Archuleta, Aditi Kinkhabwala (field reporter) There are times when I have wondered if the Giants should have taken Will Levis in the 2023 draft. Then, I watch him play quarterback. 4:05 p.m. Atlanta Falcons (6-4) at Denver Broncos (5-5)TV: FOX — Kevin Kugler, Daryl Johnston, Laura Okmin (field reporter) You get to watch Bo Nix and wonder why the Giants didn’t draft him. Or Michael Penix. Seattle Seahawks (4-5) at San Francisco 49ers (5-4)TV: FOX — Joe Davis, Greg Olsen, Pam Oliver (field reporter) The 49ers should be better than 5-4. Shouldn’t they? 4:25 p.m. Kansas City Chiefs (9-0) at Buffalo Bills (8-2)TV: CBS — Jim Nantz, Tony Romo, Tracy Wolfson (field reporter) Somebody has to beat the Chiefs eventually. Right? 8:20 p.m. Cincinnati Bengals (4-6) at Los Angeles Chargers (6-3)TV: NBC — Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth, Melissa Stark (field reporter) We will have a separate thread Sunday evening for this game. Come on back for that!
