Cincinnati Bengals at Los Angeles Chargers: Sunday Night Football Discussion
Patriots vs. Dolphins opening odds for Week 12: Is Miami favored over AFC East rival?
Photo by Jaiden Tripi/Getty Images Can the Miami Dolphins sweep the New England Patriots this year? The oddsmakers seem to think so. The Miami Dolphins are coming off a win over the Las Vegas Raiders with a solid, ball-control type of performance. Miami scored a season-high 34 points despite relying on the running game and short passes compared to their normal deep attack led by wide receiver Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Miami’s first four full drives (not including the 45 seconds before the end of the first half) featured time of possession of 8:13, 8:22, 7:47, and 5:45. The Dolphins still won 34-19, despite the systematic attack they seemed to employ on Sunday. Will they have the same kind of success in Week 12 when they host the New England Patriots in the second half of the AFC East rivalry’s annual home-and-home series. With both teams now complete in Week 11, the opening odds for Week 12 have been released. How do the oddsmakers at FanDuel Sportsbook see this game playing out? What are the records for both teams? After their Week 11 win over the Raiders, the Dolphins are 4-6 on the season. Despite a 2-6 start, Miami, on a two-game winning streak, is back in the AFC playoff picture and will be looking to reinforce their standings with a win over the Patriots. New England is 3-8 on the year following a loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. They have fallen into last place in the AFC East, though they are tied with the New York Jets for that spot. What happened in Week 5? Miami visited the Patriots in New England in Week 5. Both teams entered the game on a three-game losing streak after having won their respective Week 1 games. The Dolphins ended a weird statistic in the first quarter when they kicked a field goal to open the game’s scoring – Miami had not led during a game at any point in the season up to that point, having won their Week 1 game on a last-second field goal with no time remaining on the clock. They did not hold the lead long, however, as the Patriots came back later in the first quarter to score a touchdown. The Patriots extended the lead with a field goal early in the third quarter, while Miami settled for two field goals during the period, pulling to within a point at 10-9. In the fourth quarter, Miami finally put the ball in the endzone, scoring the game-winning touchdown with 4:24 remaining in the game, giving them the 15-10 victory. Miami started quarterback Tyler Huntley in the game, replacing the injured Tua Tagovailoa, and he was 18-for-31 for 194 yards with an interception. The Patriots’ Jacoby Brissett was 18-for-34 for 160 yards. Miami rookie running back led the team with 86 rushing yards, with Raheem Mostert, on a team-high 19 carries, added 80 yards. New England’s Rhamondre Stevenson carried the ball 12 times for 89 yards and a touchdown. Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill caught six passes for 69 yards, with tight end Jonnu Smith adding 62 yards on five receptions and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle finished with four receptions for 46 yards. The Patriots tallied 59 receiving yards on six receptions from wide receiver DeMario Douglas, 34 yards on two catches from wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, and 32 receiving yards on 2 receptions from tight end Hunter Henry. Safety Marcus Maye led Miami with nine tackles while linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah and defensive tackle Zach Sieler each recorded a sack. New England safety Dell Pettus and defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale each had nine tackles in the game, with Ekaule and linebacker Anfernee Jennings combining for a sack. Defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy also recorded a sack. Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez intercepted a pass from Miami’s Huntley. The Dolphins were 1.5-point favorites heading into the game, covering the spread with their five-point victory. The point total was 36.5, with the under paying on the combined 25 point total. What is the all-time history between the teams? Including the Week 5 win, the Dolphins lead the regular season matchup 62-53. The Patriots have the edge in the postseason 1-2. Miami has won the last three meetings and eight of the last 10 meetings. New England last beat the Dolphins in Miami in Week 2 of 2019, with Tom Brady leading the Patriots to a 43-0 drubbing of the Josh Rosen and Ryan Fitzpatrick led Dolphins. What are the opening FanDuel Sportsbook odds? The oddsmakers are clearly giving the Dolphins the advantage in the game. With Tagovailoa back as the starting quarterback for Miami, the Dolphins offense has been much more effective and now Miami will be looking to sweep New England. According to the opening line, the Dolphins are seven-point favorites for the game and are -375 to win straight up according to the moneyline. New England is +300 for the win. The point total is 45.5. Spread: Dolphins -7Moneyline: Patriots +300 | Dolphins -375Point total: 45.5
Sunday Night Football: Cincinnati Bengals @ Los Angeles Chargers Open Live Thread & Game Information
Photo by Kirk Irwin/Getty Images Tonight’s week 11 edition of Sunday Night Football has the Cincinnati Bengals traveling west to take on the Los Angeles Chargers. As is tradition for the Bengals, they began the season slow, leading to their current 4 and 6 record. Despite playing much better as of late, the Bengals are coming off a tough one-point loss last week to the Baltimore Ravens, 35 to 34. The Chargers have a slightly better record at 6 and 3, giving them second place in their division coming into week 11. LA is coming off a three-game win streak, including their win last weekend over the Tennessee Titans, 27 to 17. Cincinnati Bengals (4-6) 3rd AFC North @ Los Angeles Chargers (6-3) 2nd AFC West Kickoff: 8:20 p.m. EST, Sunday, November 17th Location: SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California TV Broadcast: NBC FANDUEL Sportsbook betting Odds: Chargers -1.5; Point total: 47.5; Moneyline: Chargers -120 | Bengals +102 —My Pick: The Chargers will cover. The line is close, but the Chargers also have the best defense in the league in the statistic that matters the most: points surrendered. Despite playing better, the Bengals find ways to lose games even when they should have won them. In addition, the Bengals will be the team traveling cross country. The Chargers defense will do their thing this evening, holding the dangerous Bengals in check, winning the game outright, and covering the line.
Live thread: Bengals at Chargers on ‘Sunday Night Football’
Photo by Kirk Irwin/Getty Images The Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers will battle it out on the latest installment of “Sunday Night Football.” Come chat with us in our open thread. The Cincinnati Bengals (4-6) are traveling west to take on the Los Angeles Chargers (6-3) in a battle for positioning in the AFC Wildcard race. These two teams have met 38 times in their histories, with the Chargers holding a 22-14 regular season lead and a 1-1 split in the playoffs. The Bengals’ offense has caught fire of late and while they’ve lost two of their last three games, they scored 92 points over that span. Joe Burrow has been slinging it and Ja’Marr Chase has been his primary weapon. Just last week against the Ravens, Burrow targeted Chase 17 times, producing 11 receptions for 264 yards, and three touchdowns. The Chargers are on a three-game win streak, and their offense has been averaging 26 points per game. While not as impressive as the Bengals’ production, it’s been more than enough considering how their defense has been playing. In Week 3, the Steelers managed to score 20 points on LA, but the Chargers defense has held their other eight opponents to 17 points or less, and are averaging just 13.1 points allowed per game, best in the NFL. Betting line and pick for the game The folks over at FanDuel Sportsbook are slightly favoring the home team in this game with the betting line being set at Chargers -1.5 points This has all the makings of a close game where each team’s strengths will square off. While I think the Bengals have the firepower to put up the most points the Chargers have allowed this season, I also think the Chargers offense can keep pace. NFL playoff picture after Week 11
Photo by Elsa/Getty Images The Eagles are holding steady at No. 2 for now. With 15 of 16 NFC teams done playing in Week 11, it’s time for a look at the updated NFL playoff picture. The Philadelphia Eagles are currently the No. 2 seed with a 1.5-game lead in the NFC East after beating the Washington Commanders on Thursday night. The Birds would’ve liked to see the Detroit Lions lose in order to make up ground on the No. 1 seed for a first-round bye. But the Lions absolutely annihilated Doug Pederson’s Jacksonville Jaguars in a 52 to 6 victory. The Eagles did get some more cushion at No. 2 with the Atlanta Falcons — who notably have a head-to-head tiebreaker over Philly — getting blown out by the Denver Broncos. So, there’s that … though the Eagles would still prefer the Falcons to win the NFC South instead of Todd Bowles’ Tampa Bay Bucccaneers. If the Eagles finish the regular season as the No. 2 seed, they’ll host the No. 7 seed at Lincoln Financial Field during the Wild Card round. That’s currently set to be … the Commanders … who the Eagles will play at FedEx Field in Week 16. Still plenty of time for things to change with six weeks left to play. Sunday Night Football Week 11: Chargers vs. Bengals – how to watch, game time, TV channel, streaming
Photo by Sean M. Haffey/Getty Images Your open thread for Sunday Night Football The Los Angeles Chargers will take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday Night Football. The Chargers (6-3) are solidly in the playoff picture as a wildcard team, while the Bengals are just on the outside looking in after a disappointing first half of the season. Jim Harbaugh has quickly put his stamp on the Chargers in his first years as their head coach, winning with efficient quarterback play, enough offensive production, and very good defensive play. The Bengals, meanwhile, have one of the worst defenses in the NFL balanced by one of the most explosive passing offenses in the NFL. Joe Burrow (with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins) always gives the Bengals a chance, but can they overcome their defensive woes? Vegas is split on the game, as FanDuel sports book has the Chargers as slim 1.5-point favorites at home. Chris’ pick: This is a match-up between one of the best offenses in the NFL in the Bengals and one of the best defenses in the Chargers. So which one comes out on top, the irresistible force or the immoveable object? Making matters even more intriguing, both Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow are playing some really good football and limiting mistakes. I’m going to pick the Chargers to come out on top at home, though as the spread would suggest, this is a game that really could go either way. A good offense will usually have the advantage over a good defense, but I think the Chargers’ offense has enough to play complimentary football and come away with the win in the end. I could see the Bengals turning this into a quarterback duel and walking away with their superior passing game. However, the Chargers have the advantage if the game stays manageable. NFL Week 11 Recap: Indianapolis Colts 28, New York Jets 27
In a dramatic comeback, Anthony Richardson powered the Indianapolis Colts to a 28-27 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday.
Sean McVay may be losing confidence in Joshua Karty
Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images Is Sean McVay losing faith in his rookie kicker? Sean McVay spoke to the media after the Los Angeles Rams beat the New England Patriots, and the head coach called it a “strange game”, later adding that he was questioning the ability of the special teams unit, including kicker Joshua Karty. “There wasn’t a lot of reason to feel great about…that operation.” LA had a chance late in the fourth quarter to go up two scores with a 50+ yard field goal, but instead chose to punt. The coach was asked about his decision as far as not giving his kicker Karty the chance to be the hero. The head coach’s response was not the typical coach speak as he expressed a lack of confidence in the unit (and thus Karty) at that point in the game ultimately deciding to go with Ethan Evans to punt the ball away. “There wasn’t a lot of reason to feel great about…that operation today, and so felt good about the defense thought Ethan (Evans) and our punt team did a good job of being able to pin them (the Patriots) deep. So, knowing that they needed a touchdown…there wasn’t a whole lot of back and forth you know felt pretty convicted in that decision right there.” LIVE: Sean McVay & Matthew Stafford postgame press conference following Week 11 matchup vs. Patriots. https://t.co/RmgYj66fFE — Los Angeles Rams (@RamsNFL) November 17, 2024 That’s a pretty damning statement to make about your own special teams unit, and though the head coach didn’t say Karty by name does he need to? Karty was hero in Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers, but he missed a chip shot field goal today and overall he’s been inconsistent and he hasn’t been the sure thing that the Rams were probably looking for when they drafted him in the sixth round of last year’s draft. Josh Karty’s last 7 games:11-of-15 FG (73%)11-of-13 PAT Misses from:-43-35-57-26 73% would rank 30th in the NFL — TurfShowTimes (@TurfShowTimes) November 17, 2024 How long is Karty’s leash? Are the missed kicks mostly on the kicker or are there other factors? At this point in the season is there even another direction that the Rams can go with their placekicking position? Those will surely be some questions to think about as LA prepares for the final stretch of the NFL season.
