Should LA have been more active at the trade deadline?

Rams traded CB Tre’Davious White but made no other moves of note

The L.A. Rams were relatively quiet at the NFL trade deadline, aside from trading cornerback Tre’Davious White to the Ravens. Could the Rams have been more active, considering the team is back in the thick of the NFC West chase at 4-4?

LA’s lack of a significant acquisition was somewhat puzzling but not exactly unexpected. For weeks, there were all those insufferable Cooper Kupp rumors. The “will they or won’t they” dance got really old quickly. Fortunately, all those rumors were nothing but talk.

Either way, it’s difficult not to feel let down by Snead’s inactivity given the deadline used to be one of his favorite holidays on the NFL calendar. Some of the most significant moves of his tenure came at the trade deadline, and the Rams GM hasn’t made any blockbuster moves since the 2021 Super Bowl season.

Since Sean McVay was hired in 2017, here are some of the major moves that Snead made at the deadline:

2018: acquired Dante Fowler Jr. from the Jaguars

2019: traded Marcus Peters to the Ravens for Kenny Young, sent Aqib Talib to the Dolphins and acquired Jaguars All-Pro Jalen Ramsey

2021: traded for Broncos’ future Hall of Fame linebacker Von Miller

2023: traded Cam Akers to the Vikings for a 2026 conditional sixth-round pick

2024: traded Tre’Davious White to the Ravens and swapped future seventh-round draft picks

That is not to say Snead and the front office hadn’t tried to do more. Remember, those silly Carolina Panthers refused to accept the Rams’ MASSIVE offer for Brian Burns, also turning down sending Christian McCaffrey to them. Nope, Carolina had to send CMC to the worst place on earth—the 49ers. No Christmas card for you ever again Panthers you deserve the misery you’re suffering through for that.

LA’s lack of acquisitions in the last couple of seasons is staggering due to Snead’s past tendencies. Those blockbuster moves for Ramsey and eventually, Miller paved the way for the franchise to win its second Lombardi Trophy. The Rams are unlikely to come close to another Super Bowl this season, but you’d have to think that anything to help the team in the long term would’ve been welcomed.

Rams fans should better hope that Les Snead does not come to regret his inactivity if the team goes on a second-half run.
