A change at the kicker spot
Yesterday, we briefly mentioned that the Minnesota Vikings were dealing with a couple of injuries on their special teams, and today we learned that one of their key pieces from that phase of the game is going to be out for a while.
The team is going to be placing kicker Will Reichard on injured reserve, meaning that he will miss the team’s next four games at a minimum. Reichard is dealing with a quad injury that Kevin O’Connell has said did not affect either of his field goal misses in Sunday’s victory over Indianapolis but was clearly bothering him throughout the contest.
To take over the placekicking duties, the Vikings are bringing back John Parker Romo, who was with the team in the early stages of training camp this year. Romo went undrafted out of Virginia Tech in 2022 and has spent time with both the New Orleans Saints and the Detroit Lions. He also kicked for the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL in 2022, garnering all-XFL honors.
There hasn’t been any word yet on the status of long snapper Andrew DePaola, who is also likely to be placed on IR with a hand injury that will require surgery.
There’s a changing of the guard at kicker for the Vikings, folks. That makes sense, given that Reichard had been allowing Vikings fans to get a little too comfortable in the early portion of this season. Hopefully Romo can pick up where he left off and provide some solid work as his replacement.
