Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …
3 players who make sense for the Eagles at the trade deadline, 2.0 – PhillyVoice
Calais Campbell (38), DL, Dolphins (6’8, 307). Campbell is 38 years old, but still productive. He had 36 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 2022 with Baltimore, 56 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 2023 with Atlanta, and he has 28 tackles and 2 sacks in 8 games with Miami so far in 2024. For what it’s worth, PFF has Campbell graded as the 5th best defensive lineman in the NFL. The Eagles got a bit of a boost from the additions of Linval Joseph and Ndamukong Suh about midway through the 2022 season, and Campbell could function in a similar capacity as a half-season / playoff rental. Campbell is a versatile lineman who can play on the edge or on the interior, and the Eagles could use more depth at both spots. Estimated cost: I dunno, a 5, with a 7 coming back along with Campbell?
7 NFL trade deadline buyers and sellers in 2024, starring Eagles, 49ers, Browns, Lions – SB Nation
Philadelphia Eagles. If Howie Roseman is still involved, the Eagles are going to try and swing big at the deadline. The Eagles are firmly in the “good” team tier, but are missing some things that could separate them from being truly elite. While they can’t trade for a new coach midseason, I think the Eagles could really use another pass rush threat out on the edge. Since adding rookie CB Cooper DeJean to the lineup the secondary has been shored up, but the defensive line still has odd stretched of poor play. Bryce Huff hasn’t been who they’ve wanted him to be and Nolan Smith is still trying to find his footing. Another EDGE could be key in their chase for another Super Bowl appearance.
NFL Trade Rumors: Bryce Huff’s name emerges – BGN
So, here’s an interesting thing. Speaking during a Monday appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, NFL insider Tom Pelissero brought up Bryce Huff’s name when talking about candidates to be moved ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline at 4:00 PM Eastern. Here’s exactly what he had to say: “There’s certainly going to be interest in guys like Bryce Huff, who was one of the Eagles’ big free agent signings, played all of six snaps yesterday after apparently getting his hand banged up in warmups or something. That’s a name that I think is going to get some potential action.”

Big Picture Stuff – Iggles Blitz
The Eagles want to be an aggressive organization. Taking chances means embracing failure. The Eagles lost that game in 2016, but Pederson’s aggressive style paid off in 2017 when he had a more talented team. He took chances and it helped deliver a Lombardi Trophy to Philly. Al Michaels said “Do you dare?” in regard to going for it on that fourth down. Doug dared. Ask the SAS and they will tell you “Who dares wins”. Pederson got his team accustomed to going for it on fourth down. If you’re a young fan, you don’t understand how foreign this fourth down stuff is. Just 10 years ago it would have seemed nuts. Going for it on fourth down got you super nervous. Now teams look at it as a weapon. Pederson embraced it. Sirianni has as well. You should be happy you have a coach who is willing to take chances. I certainly don’t agree with all of them. Kick the extra point when you’re up 16-0. You want to make that a three-possession lead. Getting two points there isn’t worth the risk. But I’d rather have a coach who is too aggressive than one who is too scared. There are times when Sirianni drives me nuts. Still, I think he’s right to be aggressive and to teach his team to embrace those moments. Let’s hope it pays off for him the way it did for Pederson.
NFL Week 9 lessons: Fixing the Saints, trade deadline wishes – ESPN+
20: That’s how many teams where DeVonta Smith would be WR1.A.J. Brown is elite, an easy top-five wideout. He’s unreal. And because he’s so good, he casts a very big shadow, and the Slim Reaper all too easily hides within it. But once or twice a season, Smith has a day or makes a play that reminds you just how good he is, too. One of those plays came this week against the Jaguars — in a game that got weirdly close — with Brown on the sideline. It’s third-and-22 and the target is right up against the end line. Nails. And after another mind-blowing downfield touchdown against the Bengals last week. Just bonkers. Elite WR2s are always so interesting to me because they’re challenging to contextualize. They benefit from the gravity of the elite WR1 with whom they play, but they also don’t get the sort of volume that buttresses the production of the elite guys. Of all the great WR2s — Tee Higgins, Deebo Samuel Sr., Cooper Kupp, Chris Godwin, Jaylen Waddle — I think Smith is just the best player right now. I would hear arguments on Higgins and Samuel, who both have different skill sets than him. But Smith is truly elite at the catch point despite his frame, and he’s great separating and after the catch.
Why your NFL team won, lost in Week 9 – PFF
Philadelphia Eagles 28, Jacksonville Jaguars 23. Why the Eagles won: Jalen Hurts and the Eagles are big-play hunters, and it was the deep ball where they excelled against the Jaguars. Hurts completed 4-of-4 deep passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns, and was credited with three big-time throws. His deep ball has been on form all season, and Hurts earned a 97.2 deep passing grade. Why the Jaguars lost: Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars fought back against the Eagles in the second half but had to abandon the run in order to do it. On top of that, Lawrence struggled when pressured by the Eagles, earning a 55.5 overall grade and completing just 3-of-9 pass attempts on 11 pressured dropbacks. He was also sacked twice and threw an interception.
Nakobe Dean protects souvenir after calling game vs. Jags – NBCSP
Nakobe Dean made his way into the postgame press conference room at Lincoln Financial Field with a football tucked high and tight. Sorry … not A football — THE football. As in, the football Dean picked off late in the fourth quarter on a pass from Trevor Lawrence to D’Ernest Johnson in the end zone to seal the Eagles’ 28-23 win. Facing an improbable and disastrous collapse, the Eagles needed a play and the third-year linebacker came through. Dean called game. “I just can’t get off of Nakobe and the play he made at the end of the game,” quarterback Jalen Hurts said. “So a hell of a play. A big-time moment.”
Cowboys optimistic Micah Parsons will return this week – PFT
The Cowboys haven’t had much positive injury news this season and more bad news came Monday when an MRI showed quarterback Dak Prescott’s hamstring was worse than anticipated. He will miss multiple weeks. The Cowboys, though, are optimistic about getting another star player back this week. Edge rusher Micah Parsons “should be back” for Sunday’s game against the Eagles, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
NFL Week 9 Under Review: Midseason Awards Edition – The Ringer
Defensive Rookie of the Year is Jared Verse. It’s still early, but so far it looks like the Rams got an absolute steal by selecting Verse at no. 19. Verse’s 3.5 sacks aren’t going to wow anyone, but the other metrics are eye-popping. His 39 pressures rank seventh—not among rookies, but in the entire NFL! Over the last five seasons, no rookie has had more pressures through the first nine weeks of the season. His 14 QB hits are tied for seventh leaguewide. And his pressure rate (18.3 percent) is fifth behind Garrett, Danielle Hunter, Will McDonald IV, and Hendrickson. Verse’s game is built on power and physicality. Oftentimes, rookies with that profile take time to adjust to NFL competition, but that hasn’t been the case with Verse. He’s been absurdly productive from day one. Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell has been excellent and is my runner-up, but Verse is the easy choice.

Kelce had made an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay show outside Beaver Stadium to kick a field goal before the Penn State-Ohio State football game. The incident did not keep Kelce from his regularly-scheduled appearance as an analyst on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown, which was in Kansas City this week for the Chiefs game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kelce opened the broadcast by expressing regret for his actions. “Listen, I think everybody’s seen on social media everything that took place this week,” Kelce said. “Listen, I’m not happy with anything that took place. I’m not proud of it, and in a heated moment I chose to greet hate with hate, and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing, I really don’t. I don’t think it leads to discourse and it’s the right way to go about things. And in that moment, I fell down to a level that I shouldn’t have.”
Jaguars vs Eagles: Winners and losers from Week 9 – Big Cat Country
LOSERS: Ronald Darby. There are likely only a handful of corners in the NFL that can consistently cover and hang with Devonta Smith. We can now rest assured that Ronald Darby is not one of them. In fact, I’m not positive Darby has covered anyone this year.
Washington’s roster went through massive changes this offseason, as Peters and Quinn jettisoned a lot of Ron Rivera’s players, and started shaping the roster to their vision. Some spots still need work, with CB, WR, EDGE depth possible spots the team is looking at. Dianna Russini reports the team is calling about CB help, but Adam Peters is not expected to be willing to part with high draft picks. Adam Schefter reports that players are calling their agents, telling them want to get traded there. What a time to be alive!
It goes without saying that this is the worst possible thing that could happen to a team that has a number of worst possible things happen to them. Dak Prescott has his critics, but he is far and away the best quarterback on the team’s roster. Dallas has dug themselves a hole where they have only three wins through the first eight games of the season and only once in franchise history has the club climbed out of such a hole to reach the playoffs. Prescott was a part of that group in 2018 and such a challenge will be more difficult moving forward now. The report here notes that Cooper Rush is the primary backup for the Cowboys, but team EVP Stephen Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan and noted that the team could consider playing Trey Lance in a world where Prescott was set to miss time. There is certainly merit to that argument now that we know we are in fact inhabiting the world in question.
Giants-Panthers Week 10 odds: Giants will be favored in Munich – Big Blue View
With both teams battling to break losing streaks, the Giants are listed as the 5.5-point favorites, per FanDuel Sportsbook. New York’s recent ATS record may deter some bettors, but playing in an international game offers a fresh setting that could give either team the spark they need to turn their season around. Meanwhile, Carolina’s Over record (7-2 on the season) suggests this matchup could yield more scoring than anticipated.
Detroit Lions trade for Browns DE Za’Darius Smith – Pride Of Detroit
Smith should immediately jump to the top of Detroit’s depth chart, filling a big void left by Aidan Hutchinson’s serious injury from Week 6. Hutchinson was on his way to an All-Pro season, tallying 7.5 sacks through four-and-a-half games. Since his injury, Lions defensive linemen have combined for just a single sack through three games. In nine games with the Browns, Smith produced 5.0 sacks and six tackles for loss. He’ll not only help out Detroit’s anemic pass rush, but he should give the Lions’ declining run defense a nice boost. Smith a strong, physical force who should fit exactly what Detroit is looking for in their defensive bookends.
