Despite a very rough showing on Sunday Night Football, the Colts are turning to Joe Flacco for at least another start.

Indianapolis Colts veteran quarterback Joe Flacco will get a consecutive start against the Buffalo Bills at home this weekend (via The Athletic’s James Boyd):

Flacco is coming off a very poor performance versus the Minnesota Vikings defense on Sunday Night Football—after he replaced 2nd-year quarterback Anthony Richardson as the Colts starter “going forward.” He completed 16 of 27 pass attempts (59.3%) for just 179 total passing yards (6.6 ypa), 0 touchdowns, and an interception—with a passer rating of 63.7.

Post-game Sunday night per Boyd, Steichen reportedly indicated that he believes Flacco still gives the team “the best chance to win” and remains the starter “right now, yes.”

Steichen double-downed on his believe in the longtime NFL veteran quarterback on Monday by responding that it was just a one-game sample size, despite the team’s worst offensive performance of the 2024 campaign—and on primetime to boot.

Even though Richardson behind center at least opens up the running game with his dual-threat mobility and presence of the RPO game, the Colts and particularly Steichen do not appear to be in an immediate hurry to reinsert the former 4th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft back into the starting lineup—who was surprisingly benched after just 10 career starts.

For now, it appears as though they’ll stay the course with Flacco for at least one more start. However, if he has another poor showing, it’s possible the Colts turn back to Richardson.
