Trolling?
The Philadelphia Eagles announced two transactions on Monday afternoon. Here’s an overview:
- LB Dallas Gant was signed to the practice squad.
- OL Braeden Daniels was released from the practice squad.
Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.
DALLAS GANT
Gant, 24, originally played at Ohio State for four years before transferring to Toledo (where he overlapped with Eagles rookie standout Quinyon Mitchell) for two more. He signed with the Minnesota Vikings after not being selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Gant was waived in late August as the Vikings trimmed their roster to 53 players but he was brought back on the practice squad. The Vikings then moved on from him last week on October 29.
Now in Philly, Gant provides extra depth at linebacker for practice purposes. It’s worth noting that fullback/linebacker Ben VanSumeren left Sunday’s game early due to a concussion.
Kind of funny that the Eagles signed a player named Dallas ahead of their game against the Cowboys. And that they now have two players named Dallas at the NovaCare Complex.
Scouting report via NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein:
Former four-star recruit at Ohio State who ultimately became a first-team All-MAC linebacker in both seasons with Toledo. Gant is tall and possesses an athletic build with long arms. He’s instinctive as an inside linebacker and rarely displays panic or impatience when diagnosing, pursuing or tackling. He takes on blocks with adequate efficiency and is a balanced tackle finisher. He doesn’t appear to have plus speed and might need to play with better downhill flow as a pro. Gant’s football intelligence and skill level could make him worthy of a Day 3 selection and put him in position to battle for a backup spot at some point.
BRAEDEN DANIELS
The Eagles only signed Daniels to their practice squad less than a week ago. Maybe they didn’t love what they saw. Or maybe it’s just about churning the practice squad to continue to get looks at new players.
