This move doesn’t come as much of a surprise as The Athletic’s Vic Tafur mentioned that Getsy could get fired after the game with the Raiders’ bye week coming up this week.
While Getsy was just hired this offseason, Las Vegas’ offense ranked 26th in points per game heading into this weekend and the unit’s 17-point performance on Sunday didn’t move the needle. The Raiders scored 24 points against the Bengals, but seven points came via a Jack Jones pick-six and one of the offense’s two touchdowns came in garbage time.
Granted, the offense’s issues go beyond the play caller as Gardner Minshew was benched, again, in favor of Desmond Ridder at the end of Sunday’s contest. Also, the team’s offensive line has struggled throughout the campaign. However, Antonio Pierce had to make a change with the season already spiraling out of control at the halfway point.
At the time of writing, it’s unknown who will take over as the Raiders offensive coordinator for the next eight weeks. Passing game coordinator Scott Turner seems like the most logical choice seeing as he has experience in the position, serving as the Washington Commander’s play-caller from 20220 to 2022.
