Expectation seems to be that Ojulari has played his last game as a Giant
With rumors swirling around his potential departure by Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, New York Giants edge defender Azeez Ojulari addressed his future candidly following the Giants’ narrow 27-22 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
Despite the growing speculation, Ojulari emphasized his commitment to his current team, taking a “one day at a time” approach as he navigates a potentially pivotal week ahead.
After being asked if he thought this game might be his last as a Giant, Ojulari said, “No, not at all. I’m just going one day at a time…just trying to get this win today.”
However, the outcome left the Giants still in last place in the NFC East, likely reinforcing the team’s intent to pursue trades for key assets before Tuesday’s trade deadline.
Ojulari, who has produced five sacks over four games since Kayvon Thibodeaux went on IR, has caught the interest of multiple teams, including the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, and Cincinnati Bengals, per reports by The Athletic’s Diana Russini. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Ojulari could be an appealing asset for teams looking to strengthen their pass rush. General manager Joe Schoen is expected to weigh his options, as Ojulari’s trade value may be high, particularly given his recent on-field productivity.
Reflecting on the game, Ojulari expressed disappointment in the Giants’ execution against the Commanders, particularly on defense, where they struggled to pressure the quarterback.
“We didn’t execute enough,” he said. “We’ve got to do our job to the fullest, come back, and improve for the next game. It’s a team game…we’ve just got to prepare better for Carolina next week.”
When asked about the trade rumors specifically, Ojulari remained diplomatic.
“I haven’t been told anything. I’m just taking it one day at a time…I’m getting ready for next week.,” Ojulari said. “This is where I got drafted. Blessed to be here…trying to make the most of every opportunity I get.”
