My overall record is 63-59-1, which is behind the collective BGN community at 69-53-1. I’m finally back over .500! And I’m working on closing the gap.
Here are suggestions when trying to beat the odds.
NFL WEEK 9 PICKS AGAINST THE SPREAD
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS at TENNESSEE TITANS (-3): The Pats could be primed for a letdown after last week’s emotional win, where they largely got outplayed. The Titans’ defense is a legitimately good unit that could cause problems. PICK: Titans -3
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (-7.5) at CAROLINA PANTHERS: The Saints stink but the Panthers just haven’t even been competitive at all. Impossible to give them the benefit of the doubt. Pretty tough look to be 7.5-point home underdogs to a team that’s lost six in a row. PICK: Saints -7.5
DENVER BRONCOS at BALTIMORE RAVENS (-9.5): The Broncos are being slept on. They rank fifth in point differential and 11th in DVOA. Bo Nix is coming off his best game. The Ravens might very will win but Denver can keep it competitive. PICK: Broncos +9.5
LAS VEGAS RAIDERS at CINCINNATI BENGALS (-7.5): There’s a reason the Bengals are favored by this much as a 3-5 team taking on a 2-6 team. They’re not dropping to 0-5 at home this season; they’re a lock to win. It’s just a matter of covering. And I’m not sure why anyone would want to put faith in the Raiders. PICK: Bengals -7.5
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (-1.5) at CLEVELAND BROWNS: The Browns are a more legitimate team with Jameis Winston under center. And Jim Schwartz is focused on stopping the run, which is what the Bolts lean into. PICK: Browns +1.5
DALLAS COWBOYS at ATLANTA FALCONS (-3): It’s a little too early to officially bury the Cowboys at 3-4. The Falcons haven’t earned the benefit of the doubt in a big way. Also, am I trying to jinx Dallas here? Absolutely. PICK: Cowboys +3
MIAMI DOLPHINS at BUFFALO BILLS (-5.5): The Bills are a wagon. And they’ll circle the wagons in a big win here. PICK: Bills -5.5
WASHINGTON COMMANDERS (-3.5) at NEW YORK GIANTS: The Commanders have a huge edge over the Giants in the vibes department. You’ll be kicking yourself for trusting New York in this spot, though I do think the Commanders could be primed for a letdown after last week’s improbable win. PICK: Commanders -3.5
CHICAGO BEARS at ARIZONA CARDINALS (-1.5): Caleb Williams was a pretty brutal watch last week. Can’t get that out of my head. PICK: Cardinals -1.5
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (-7.5): The Jags are bad and banged up. The Eagles should be able to take advantage of one of the NFL’s worst passing defenses. The Birds deserve the benefit of the doubt in this spot. PICK: Eagles -7.5
LOS ANGELES RAMS (-1.5) at SEATTLE SEAHAWKS: The Seahawks have been unable to hang with the big boys this season. And the Rams seem to be finding themselves. Not to mention LA had extra rest before this matchup. PICK: Rams -1.5
DETROIT LIONS (-2.5) at GREEN BAY PACKERS: The Packers need this game more than the Lions do. In a division battle that’ll likely go down to the wire, I’ll lean with taking the points. PICK: Packers +2.5
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS at MINNESOTA VIKINGS (-5.5): The Colts have been competitive with a quarterback who’s really struggled. Now they’re going to be better with Joe Flacco under center. They’re going to cover. PICK: Colts +5.5
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS at KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (-9.5): Trusting the Chiefs to cover isn’t fun. But the Bucs are in a bad way and KC just doesn’t lose. So, hard not to side with them. Watch them win by exactly nine points. PICK: Chiefs -9.5
