And he’s worthy of winning it
It’s the time of the year in the National Football League when we start learning who each team has nominated for the annual Salute to Service Award from USAA, and this year’s nominee for the Minnesota Vikings is one who certainly deserves to win.
The team has announced that running back Aaron Jones is the team’s Salute to Service Award nominee for this season.
Jones’ family has a distinguished history of military service, as his late father Alvin and his mother Vurgess both retired from the U.S. Army as Sergeants Major with a combined 56 years of service (29 for him, 27 for her). His older brother, Xavier, is currently on active duty in the United States Air Force.
Along with his twin brother, Alvin Jr., Jones started the A&A All the Way Foundation in 2020, a non-profit that emphasizes the support of youth in military families. The foundation connects families and young people who have experienced the difficulties of deployments, constant relocation, and the other uncertainties that accompany military life.
I know we’ve got a lot of veterans who have become part of our community over the years, and I know that I’d personally like to see a member of the Vikings bring this award home. Hopefully this will be the year. Jones would be the second member of the Vikings to win this award, as Jared Allen was named the winner in 2014 following his final season in Minnesota
If you would like to see Aaron Jones advance as one of the three finalists for this year’s USAA Salute to Service Award, you can vote once per day on the NFL dot com website between now and 30 November. The finalists will be announced in January, and the winner of the award will be announced at the annual NFL Honors ceremony on Super Bowl weekend. With any luck, Jones will win the award and then be too busy to accept it in person.
Congratulations to Aaron Jones on being named this year’s USAA Salute to Service nominee for the Minnesota Vikings, and best of luck to him on potentially winning this year’s award.
