Despite a groin injury, Packers QB Jordan Love is expected to start vs. the Detroit Lions.
Green Bay Packers starting quarterback Jordan Love is expected to play Sunday against the Detroit Lions, per several reports (Dianna Russini, Tom Pelissero). Love suffered a groin injury in last Sunday’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and not return in the second half. But after getting a promising MRI and two limited practices this week, it appears he’ll give it a go ahead of backup Malik Willis on Sunday afternoon.
In his second year as a starter, it’s been an up-and-down season for Love. While he’s averaging a healthy 7.7 yards per attempt and 2.5 passing touchdowns a game, he also leads the league with nine interceptions, despite only playing in six of eight contests.
But in his last game against the Lions, Love was excellent. On Thanksgiving in Detroit, Love completed 22 of 32 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns
“He does a great job of (keeping his) eyes downfield, giving his receivers a chance to make a play on the ball,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said this week. “He’s just really grown and elevated since last year. I know there’s been a few picks in there, but there’s these other parts of his game playing the quarterback position that have really elevated. So, he’s a top-notch dude.”
While Love is playing, the Packers have several other key players on their injury report who may not be as lucky. Safety Evan Williams is out, center Josh Myers is doubtful, while running back Josh Jacobs and cornerback Jaire Alexander are both listed as questionable.
