Despite a rough start this season, the Rams seem to have got their runaway train back on the rails
A two-game win streak has the Los Angeles Rams fan base feeling good about their team, especially after a few early weeks of turmoil to start the season. Despite starting just 1-4, the Rams now have a chance to claim the NFC West division lead if they can beat the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday (they would also need a little help from Chicago by the Bears beating the Arizona Cardinals).
The Rams come into Sunday’s game as slight underdogs at -1.5, however according to FanDuel more fans believe that LA will cover the game rather than Seattle.
It’s a monster game for both teams given the stakes. LA has looked good the last two week but they still need to prove that they’re legitimately recovered from their early season struggles and ready to make a potential push for a contending position. A huge win over the division leading Seahawks would go a long way in doing that.
It does seems the fan base is already starting to believe in the Rams again though.
Last week, 57% of fans said that they were confident in the direction of the team after LA’s victory vs. the Las Vegas Raiders, an uptick from week before. That number has jumped up again this week over 30% to 92%. The increase can most-likely be attributed to Los Angeles’ underdog win against the previous NFC North leading Minnesota Vikings.
The team looked like a different offense with the return of Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, and this current iteration has still been without rookie WR Jordan Whittington the last two weeks. He will look to add to the Rams dangerous passing attack upon his return to the lineup, where the three wideouts would hopefully get the chance to play on the field together for the first time in regular season play.
The emergence of rookie OLB Jared Verse and the young LA defensive line has also helped in the team’s success, with the unit totaling five sacks in the last two games alone. The defense as a whole has been much more aggressive since the bye week and it has proven to be a key change in their drastically improved play from the first five weeks.
It has been a rollercoaster season thus far, but the Rams seem like they are firmly back in control. The Seahawks come into Sunday’s game with a coach not named Pete Carroll for the first time in the Sean McVay era. The team has fared well against Seattle recently, posting a 10-4 record since 2017, and will now hope to continue their winning ways against this new regime for the first time on Sunday.
