The Giants lose one of their bright spots on offense

New York York Giants rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. is in the NFL’s concussion protocol after slamming the back of his head on the turf late in the Giants’ 26-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football.

Tracy left the field following a 2-yard run with roughly 4 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Steelers defensive lineman Cam Hayward made the tackle, hitting Tracy hard and landing on him to ensure the dynamic rookie was unable to pick up yards after contact. Hayward quickly called trainers over to Tracy, who’s head appeared to bounce off the ground at the end of the play.

Tracy was escorted off the field and directly into the blue medical tent by the Giants’ trainers. A short while later he was seen exiting the tent without his helmet and was taken directly into the locker room and he wouldn’t return to the game.

Tracy carried the ball 20 times for 145 yards (7.3 per carry) and a touchdown on the night, with his longest carry being a 45-yard touchdown run to keep the Giants’ hopes of winning alive following a pair of touchdowns by the Steelers. The Steelers’ defense has been remarkably stingy against the run this year, making Tracy’s night that much better.

Tracy has seemingly assumed the mantle of RB1 in the Giants’ offense, the role he first took over following his 18-carry, 129-yard (7.2 per carry) against the Seattle Seahawks. It remains to be seen how long the Giants will be without Tracy, and they may have to make due without him against the Washington Commanders on a short week.
