Bad news for Cincinnati.
Here’s some bad news for the Cincinnati Bengals ahead of their Week 9 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, per NFL insider Dan Graziano:
Per sources, there’s a real chance Bengals WR Tee Higgins, who injured his quad in Friday’s practice, has to miss Sunday’s game against the Eagles. The Bengals are planning to go right up until game time before deciding, but there’s pessimism about his chances to play.
Higgins was officially ruled questionable to play on Friday’s injury report. We’ll see if he’s suiting up or not for sure when inactives are announced at 11:30 AM Eastern on Sunday morning.
It’s a pretty big deal if Higgins can’t play. He has 29 catches for 341 yards and three touchdowns this season. The Bengals still have Ja’Marr Chase, who is excellent and leads his team with 39 catches for 620 yards and six touchdowns. But the Eagles will be able to dedicate more attention to Cincy’s top target if Higgins isn’t on the field. Here’s a look at the production from the Bengals’ other wide receivers this season:
- Andrei Iosivas: 24 targets, 14 receptions, 189 yards, 3 TD
- Jermaine Burton: 2 targets, 1 reception, 47 yards
- Trenton Irwin: 8 targets, 2 receptions, 11 yards
- Charlie Jones: 1 target, 1 reception, 5 yards
Not exactly the most fearsome group.
The Eagles’ defense is coming off back-to-back games without allowing a touchdown. The coverage unit and the pass rush have worked well to help each other. Now we’ll see if Vic Fangio’s group can slow down Joe Burrow. The Eagles’ defensive coordinator stands to benefit if Higgins can’t play.
