Jermaine Eluemunor is latest Giant to deal with a groin injury
The New York Giants might have to turn to Evan Neal to start at right tackle this Monday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Starting right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor was held out of practice on Friday due to a groin injury. Head coach Brian Daboll told reporters he was “hopeful” that Eluemunor would be available Monday against the Steelers.
Neal was the first-team right tackle during Friday’s practice.
The Giants are already dealing with the loss of left tackle Andrew Thomas for the season due to surgery for a Lisfranc injury. Josh Ezeudu gave up two sacks against the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday in his first start in place of Thomas.
Pittsburgh star edge defender T.J. Watt generally lines up over the opposing team’s right tackle.
Neal has not played a down so far this season. He played only seven games last season before suffering a season-ending ankle injury that required surgery. The No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has had a difficult start to his NFL career.
Eluemunor remains hopeful that he will be ready to play:
Eluemunor was headed for treatment after media access yesterday and told me there was “no way” he was missing Monday’s game. Said everyone is sore at this point and just trying to get to manage to be ready for game day. https://t.co/qJf3rPVQUv
