Your open thread for Thursday night
The Los Angeles Rams will host the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night Football to open week 8.
The NFL has done a pretty good job of giving us night games that might not be good, but have had plenty of intrigue. There wasn’t much with this game when it was scheduled — the Vikings were widely expected to be bad with Sam Darnold at quarterback, while the Rams have been trying to avoid irrelevance after selling the farm to win it all in 2021.
Now, Sam Darnold has been a Top 10 quarterback and the Vikings are locked in a hard fight in a brutal NFC North. If there is any truth to the rumors that the Rams have QB Matt Stafford on the trading block, a strong performance against one of the NFC’s best teams would be good for everyone involved.
Chris’ pick: I’ll keep this quick: the Vikings. They’re only 2.5-point favorites per FanDuel sports book, but I don’t think it’ll be that close
Unless something shocking happens, this should be a pretty comfortable win for Minnesota. The Rams’ defense could give the Vikings some trouble, as Byron Young and Jared Verse look like they could be a pretty dynamic duo off the edge. But the Vikings just have too much horsepower on offense AND the best defense in the NFL in EPA allowed.
