Should the Eagles trade for Cooper Kupp?

Should the Eagles trade for Cooper Kupp?

Eagles GM Howie Roseman is notorious for finding ways to make a splash ahead of the NFL’s trade deadline, and now that the Rams have revealed their interest in finding a trade partner for WR Cooper Kupp, there’s little doubt Roseman has picked up the phone. The GM always checks on any player who might add value to the team, and Kupp fits the bill.

In addition to being one of the league’s top receivers, the Rams are only reportedly asking for a second-round pick and are even willing to cover some of the existing contract. Adding a low cost, veteran WR is something Roseman will absolutely look into.

According to The Athletic’s reporting:

“Sources with knowledge of those conversations said the Rams indicated to them that they would be open to taking on some of Kupp’s remaining salary in 2024. Kupp’s base salary entering the season was $15 million with a cap number of $29 million. He also is due a $7.5 million roster bonus in March, according to Over the Cap, with $5 million guaranteed.”

Kupp was overused in the Rams season-opener, and ended up suffering an ankle injury in Week 2 as a result. The WR is set to return to the field for the Rams in Week 8 on “Thursday Night Football”. Still, Kupp’s record speaks for itself — 8-year veteran, over 7,000 receiving yards and 52 touchdowns, a Super Bowl win, and one All Pro nod — and for the price, it’s pretty low risk.

The Eagles have one of the best WR duos in the NFL in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but with both injured before the bye week, the lack of depth at the receiver position was highlighted. Jahan Dotson has yet to really catch on, Britain Covey is on IR, John Ross was added to the practice squad injured list, and the team just released Parris Campbell from the active roster. They did open the practice window for rookie Ainias Smith, who is totally unproven.
