Playing time analysis.
The official snap counts from the Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 7 win over the New York Giants are in! Let’s take a look and run through some analysis.
OFFENSE
- Cam Jurgens and Fred Johnson were the only offensive linemen to play the entire game. Landon Dickerson and Lane Johnson were pulled early with Nick Gates and Jack Driscoll replacing them, respectively. Mekhi Becton was ruled out due to a concussion and replaced by Tyler Steen at right guard.
- Jalen Hurts was replaced by Kenny Pickett in garbage time with 10:32 left in the game. Pickett only had one pass attempt, which was incomplete. Pickett’s first regular season snaps with the Eagles.
- DeVonta Smith played the most of any Eagles target but only had two passes go his way for one catch and -2 yards.
- A.J. Brown was the only Eagles wide receiver to log positive yardage. His five targets resulted in five catches for 89 yards and one touchdown. The rest of the Eagles’ receivers combined for four targets, one catch, and -2 yards.
- Grant Calcaterra was the top tight end in Dallas Goedert’s absence, as expected. But Jack Stoll played a good amount as well.
- Jahan Dotson had zero catches for the first time since Week 1.
- Saquon Barkley had an awesome day against his former team and he did it despite only playing about half of the Eagles’ offensive snaps.
- Johnny Wilson and Parris Campbell came in for some garbage time snaps.
- Will Shipley logged his first NFL touches. He only played five offensive snaps combined in the five games prior to this one.
- Ben VanSumeren is the Eagles’ fullback. He made some nice lead blocks!
DEFENSE
- Nakobe Dean really flew around out there, logging a team-high 11 tackles. He filled up the stat sheet with two sacks, two TFLs, and four quarterback hits.
- Despite the Eagles pulling some starters early, Jalen Carter played his second-highest snap count percentage this season.
- Cooper DeJean had a sizeable role as the Eagles’ nickel cornerback.
- Josh Sweat led all Eagles edge rushers in snaps played. Bryce Huff was behind him, playing his third-highest snap count percentage this season.
- Nolan Smith played his second-highest snap count percentage this season. He has sacks in back-to-back games after only notching one as a rookie.
- Brandon Graham logged his lowest snap count percentage, 6% under his previous low last week. The Eagles are dialing back on their heavy reliance of him.
- Jordan Davis only played 21% of the Eagles’ defensive snaps. His previous low was the 37% he played in Week 6. Perhaps the coaching staff thinks they’re getting better quality reps with a lower usage rate? Or they’re just not liking him on the field? Davis did not log a stat in this game, for what it’s worth.
- Oren Burks made his Eagles defensive debut in this game.
- Sydney Brown played in his first game since the Eagles’ Week 18 loss to the New York Giants last season. He did not appear to be limited, playing a lot on special teams before seeing some garbage time action on defense.
SPECIAL TEAMS
- The Eagles had Jake Elliott handle the opening kickoff, which resulted in a touchback, but then Braden Mann resumed his role as the kickoff specialist for the rest of the game.
DID NOT PLAY
INACTIVE: Dallas Goedert, Byron Young, Eli Ricks, Tanner McKee, Darian Kinnard, Trevon Keegan
- By not putting Goedert on injured reserve ahead of Week 7, the team seems to be hoping he’ll be back for the Eagles’ Week 10 game against the Cowboys at the latest. If not earlier.
- Young and Ricks were listed with injury designations but they likely would’ve been healthy scratches anyway.
