The comebacks won’t happen tomorrow

The T.J. Hockenson Revenge Game will have to wait until Week 18.

The Minnesota Vikings have just put out an update saying that the star tight end has been downgraded to out for tomorrow’s game at U.S. Bank Stadium against Detroit. The team also did the same for offensive lineman Dalton Risner.

The Vikings have until 25 October, which is six days away, to add Hockenson to the 53-man roster as a part of activating him from the Physically Unable to Perform List. The team could activate him for this Thursday’s contest against the Los Angeles Rams, which happens on 24 October, or put him on the roster the next day and let him prepare for the team’s Week 9 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The team has a bit longer to wait on Risner, as he was activated on 14 October, giving them until 4 November to add him to the roster if they want to wait that long.

The Vikings made a handful of other moves today as well, signing tight end Robert Tonyan to the main roster from the practice squad. Tonyan will serve as the third tight end behind Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt for Sunday’s game.

Minnesota has also elevated defensive lineman Jalen Redmond and outside linebacker Bo Richter from the practice squad for Sunday’s contest. Redmond was waived earlier in the week and was brought back to the practice squad, making this his first elevation of the season. Richter has now been elevated three times, as he was also elevated for the Week 3 game against Houston and the Week 4 matchup with Green Bay. That means if the Vikings want to bring him up again, they’ll have to sign him to the 53-man roster.

Those should be the last of the roster moves that the Vikings make ahead of Sunday’s big NFC North showdown, but if they do make any more news between now and then we’ll have it right here for you.
