Miami’s franchise quarterback was put on injured reserve following the Week 2 loss to Buffalo.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa may practice as early as next week, with a potential start in the team’s Week 8 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported Saturday that Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel informed players this week that Tagovailoa is expected to return to practice on Wednesday.

“The hope is for Tagovailoa to play in their Week 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals,” Russini wrote, later adding: “I’m told he has not dealt with any lingering issues from the concussion and would play right now if he could, though the required time off was helpful for the team and player — they were able to avoid fluid timelines and erase any additional pressure on Tagovailoa to return.”

He was placed on Injured Reserve following the team’s Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills, which required him to miss at least four games before returning, giving him time to recover from his third diagnosed concussion since joining the Dolphins.

Miami’s offense, averaging just 12 points per game, ranks 26th in passing with 185.6 yards per game. Neither Tyreek Hill nor Jaylen Waddle has surpassed 70 receiving yards since Week 1.

The Dolphins faced a tough early stretch, but a potential post-bye win over the Colts — along with Tagovailoa’s expected return — could put them back on track.
