If Graham Gano isn’t ready to return from IR the Giants appear unlikely to make a change
If injured placekicker Graham Gano is not ready to come off injured reserve to kick this Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Giants are likely to stick with Greg Joseph as his replacement.
“I’d say we’d stay with Greg,” head coach Brian Daboll said Monday afternoon. “He’s done pretty good since he’s been here.”
Joseph missed field goal or 45 and 47 yards during Sunday’s 17-7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, both at the same end of MetLife Stadium. Both kicks were wide left.
Joseph is 8 of 11 since joining the Giants Week 3 to replace Gano, out with a hamstring injury. Joseph missed his first field goal attempt, but made eight straight before Sunday night’s misses.
All three of Joseph’s misses have come from beyond 40 yards, following a career pattern for the 30-year-old journeyman kicker. Joseph if 67 of 68 (98.5%) in his career from inside 40 yards. He is just 24 of 35 (68.5%) from 40-49 yards and 17 of 29 (58.6%) from beyond 50 yards.
Joseph was dealing with a new holder on Sunday, with Matt Haack punting and holding in place of the injured Jamie Gillan.
Daboll said he would have more information on Gano’s potential availability on Wednesday.
