The loss of Aidan Hutchinson is incalculable for the Detroit Lions, but not enough to stop their charge.
There’s no way you just simply replace a player like Aidan Hutchinson. Through his time with Detroit Lions, he has been the heart and soul of this team, a vocal leader, and a force multiplier on the field. As Hutchinson was carted off the field in Dallas on Sunday, it became a loss that the Lions will have to reckon with for the rest of the season.
But that loss shouldn’t overshadow how many steps forward this defense has taken, especially after Sunday’s demolition of the Dallas Cowboys. In spite of several injuries along the defensive line, the Lions can still field a defense that belongs in the top of the league; if nothing else, there’s ways to recreate some of Hutchinson’s production in a composite.
On the latest episode of the Pride of Detroit PODcast, we’re revisiting Dallas; yes, that means the fun part too—you know, the one where the Lions throttled the Cowboys in a historic victory and probably could have hung even more points on the poor fools. That was fun as hell and put the entire league back on notice to the power of the Lions and their ability to play at an entirely different level. We chat about the Hutchinson loss, where reinforcement can come from, and why you shouldn’t expect the Lions to blow up their future just to get someone to replace him. Plus, even more praise for David Montgomery, who deserves it all after a brand new contract.
