Cade Mays goes back to Carolina
The New York Giants have been so desperate for offensive line help for so many seasons that something that took place on Tuesday might seem amazing. The Carolina Panthers poached offensive lineman Cade Mays off the Giants’ practice squad, adding him to their 53-man roster.
Mays, a guard, and the Panthers are familiar with each other. Carolina drafted Mays in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In two seasons, Mays played in 27 games with seven starts.
The Panthers waived Mays at the end of the preseason, and the Giants added him to their practice squad a couple of weeks later.
Carolina this week lost offensive lineman Austin Corbett for the season with a biceps tear.
Mays, 25, can play both guard and center.
The Giants filled the practice squad vacancy by bringing back edge defender Benton Whitley, who was waived from the 53-man roster before last Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
With Kayvon Thibodeaux now out following wrist surgery, perhaps Bentley can find his way back to the main roster.
