The Colts have made a recent roster maneuver within their cornerback room, elevating David Long Jr. into the fold.
The Indianapolis Colts announced on Tuesday that the team signed cornerback David Long Jr. from the team’s practice squad and also re-signed rookie running back Trent Pennix to the team’s taxi-man team in a corresponding roster move:
We have signed CB David Long Jr. to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
The team also signed RB Trent Pennix to the practice squad.

Long Jr. occupies the vacant 53-man roster spot that was left open after fellow cornerback Dallis Flowers was somewhat surprisingly released on Monday—after he gave up an 85-yard touchdown reception to Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Brian Thomas Jr. during Sunday’s loss.
Long Jr. was signed to the Colts practice squad in early September.
The former 2019 3rd round pick of the Los Angeles (and ex-Michigan Wolverines All-Big Ten standout) has also spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, and New York Giants organizations.
During his 6-year career, Long Jr. has 96 tackles (82 solo), 8 passes defensed, and an interception during 68 career games (12 starts).
At 5’11,” 196 pounds with 30 3/4” arms, Long Jr. is though to be more of a natural slot cornerback inside, but then again, so was Samuel Womack III initially, who’s now starting on the outside for Indianapolis. At any rate, Long Jr. should immediately contribute on special teams regardless of whether he plays inside or outside and is an experienced depth piece.
