Does this move mean that the Miami Dolphins are ready to activate someone off the physically unable to perform list?

The Miami Dolphins released quarterback Tim Boyle on Friday. He completed seven pass attempts for 79 yards in Miami’s Week 3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks after Skylar Thompson was forced to leave the game with a rib injury.

Miami named Tyler Huntley the Week 5 starter against the New England Patriots, and Thompson was limited throughout the week as he recovers from the injury. The Dolphins may be opening a spot on the 53-man roster for either wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (knee) or cornerback Cam Smith (hamstring), as both players practiced in full for three consecutive days this week.

Boyle has appeared in five games over his six-year career, most recently starting three games for the New York Jets last season before joining Miami’s practice squad in late August. He was elevated to the active roster on Sept. 21 after starter Tua Tagovailoa went on injured reserve.

NFL teams can have up to 17 players on their practice squad if one player is a member of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program. With 16 players already rostered and tackle Bayron Matos occupying the International Pathway Program spot, Miami may choose to re-sign Boyle to the practice squad.
