An honor well-deserved!
The 2024 season has seen quite the renaissance for Sam Darnold, and on Thursday the Minnesota Vikings’ starting quarterback was recognized for his play to start the season.
Darnold has been named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Month for September. This is the first monthly award of Darnold’s career.
Darnold has been a huge part of the Vikings’ 4-0 start to the 2024 NFL season, the first time the purple have started a season 4-0 since 2016. He leads the NFL in touchdown passes with 11 (nobody else has more than 8 through the first four weeks) and is completing 68.9% of his passes thus far. He has also taken care of the football, being responsible for just four turnovers in the season’s first four weeks.
With his performance through the first four weeks, Darnold is the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era to start a season 4-0 and throw multiple touchdown passes in each of those four contests.
This award makes Darnold the second Viking to win the Offensive Player of the Month Award during Kevin O’Connell’s time as the team’s head coach. The other is Justin Jefferson, who won the award in November of 2022.
Congratulations to Sam Darnold on being named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for September!
