Daniel Jones still believes he can throw the deep ball

Giants’ QB has struggled to complete those so far this season

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has thrown deep passes over the heads of receivers this season. He has thrown them short. He has thrown them out of bounds. He has completed only 3 of 15 (20%), worse than every quarterback except Caleb Williams.

Jones remains confident in his ability to hit those deep passes, defined as throws 20+ yards beyond the line of scrimmage.

“I think each one’s different,” Jones said on Wednesday. “I think through the first few weeks, I’d overthrown a few in situations. It felt like giving a guy the chance was the way to go and then I left some short.

“So, I feel like I’m in a good spot now. I think it’s about just trusting it and throwing it. I feel like I’ve thrown the deep ball well through my career. I’ve always felt good about that part of my game. So, I’m confident I’ll be able to do that well.”

For his career, Jones is 59 of 173 (34.1%) on deep throws. That appears to be around league average.

Of concern, he is just 5 of 26 (19.2%) on such throws since 2022.

Jones said there is “nothing physically” that would hinder him on deeper throws.

Only time will tell if Jones is able to begin putting more of those deep throws on target.
