What’s the latest on Colts QB Anthony Richardson, RB Jonathan Taylor’s injuries?

The Colts received some encouraging injury updates on both Anthony Richardson and Jonathan Taylor—both of whom were forced to leave Sunday’s win and did not return.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (hip/oblique) and running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) avoided serious injuries during Sunday’s upset home win against the formerly undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers:

It comes after Colts head coach Shane Steichen indicated that Richardson’s ailment wasn’t a ‘huge, huge injury,’ and the 2nd-year starting quarterback is considered ‘day-to-day.’

Steichen did not provide an injury update on Taylor’s injured right ankle, but he was reported “ok,” and the team is not considering a short-term injured reserve stint.

Both offensive players appear to have at least a realistic chance to play on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, although Richardson may seemingly be a bit closer respectively.

That being said, the Colts may elect to not push Richardson, if it’s too close for comfort, as longtime veteran quarterback Joe Flacco completed 16 of 26 passes (61.5%) for 168 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions in winning relief of Richardson on Sunday.

If Taylor cannot go, who may be closer to a week or two out, his primary backup, Trey Sermon, would largely handle the ‘between-the-tackles work,’ while Tyler Goodson was assume typical pass catching duties.

While Indianapolis could still beat the winless Jaguars (0-4) without both Richardson and Talyor, it’s not ideal, as the Colts haven’t won a road game at Jacksonville since 2014.
