Well, actually they can … in 2026.

It seems safe to say that the Bryce Huff signing has not worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles thus far.

In fairness, we’re only four games into the three-year, $51.1 million contract he signed earlier this year.

But the early returns just have not been good. Trusted to play on just 43.3% of the Eagles’ defensive snaps thus far, Huff has logged one solo tackle, one assisted tackle, and zero other stats this season. He’s been downright unplayable.

The decision to invest in Huff looks especially bad in the context that the Eagles decided to sign him to be Haason Reddick’s replacement. Reddick, the player with the fourth-most sacks in the NFL since 2020.

Of course, the New York Jets’ decision to trade for Reddick hasn’t looked so great for them, either. He’s refused to practice or play without getting a new contract. The stalemate has caused him to miss four games thus far.

And so there’s been some speculation that the Jets might trade Reddick. Last week, a report emerged indicating that Reddick “wouldn’t mind going back to Philadelphia.”

It’s unclear if the Eagles would have mutual interest. But, even if they did, it turns out that the Birds CAN’T trade for Reddick:

One can speculate why Ian Rapoport tweeted this. Did Howie Roseman check in on Reddick’s status only to find out he can’t trade for him? Did the Jets reach out to the Eagles about some kind of do-over?

Who knows.

What we do know is that Reddick won’t be returning to Philly via trade. And the Jets aren’t cutting him.

So, as nice as it’d be for the Eagles to have one of the NFL’s most productive pass rushers back on the team, it’s not going to happen. They’re going to have to hope Huff steps up in a major way.

Perhaps the Eagles should’ve opted for the boat instead of the mystery box.
