We’ve done the best, now let’s do the worst! Since the “dark ages” before Vermeil are probably too easy to do (did they really have no first or second round picks from 1973-1978???), and I was too young to really know what was up in the early 80s, I’m just focusing on post-1988, when I started following the team in earnest. I don’t have a 10th place in my head, so 9 unranked drafts feels right to me. Feel free to add your flavor to this, especially you more seasoned BGN-ers. List of all Eagles draft picks below:
1991 – Antone Davis was the first Eagles pick and basically flamed out of the league a few years later. Other than that, Willie T and Andy Harmon are the saving grace. I do admit my memory does get a little hazy on guys like Scott Kowalkowski, but he spent most of his career with Detroit anyway.
1992 – The player who played 18 fewer games than all other draft picks in this class combined? 10th rounder Mark McMillan.
1994 – It’s Bernard Williams’ and we’re living in it. Reading more about the man though, I have a soft spot for him. He sure went through a lot. Charlie Garner and Joe Panos were in this class too, and I’ve always had a soft spot for one of the few Greek Eagles, if not the only one.
1997 – This was actually not a terrible class overall, but Jon Harris is probably in competition with Danny Watkins for the all time worst 1st rounder in Eagles history IMO.
2004 – Poor Shawn Andrews. Such a talented player. Going back and looking at the picks for this exercise, I’m surprised at the relative lack of success with this draft, but it’s not the worst by a long shot.
2006 – The year of Brodrick Bunkley and Winston Justice. To be fair, I’ll always think of “Turnstile Justice” when I think of this class, which is just an all-time nickname, and extremely fitting.
2011 – Jason Kelce’s class was led by Danny Watkins. Otherwise some role players here and there, but man, Danny Watkins. Enough said.
2014 – Marcus Smith never really panned out, and I never thought he would. Otherwise not the worst draft, they did get Jordan Matthews this year.
2019 – A down year for Howie, and funny to see it pop up on this list. I guess it gets here for having very few selections and relatively little production. Still, we’re comparing Andre Dillard to Bernard Williams here. At least Dillard has played in the league for a while.
What say you?
