The Miami Dolphins had players and coaches back in the building on Tuesday for the team’s first official day of offseason workouts. Unfortunately, one of their most explosive weapons on offense was nowhere to be found.
Running back De’Von Achane was absent from the facility today — choosing to skip the team’s voluntary workout session. While new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has stated multiple times this offseason that an extension for the fourth-year back is a priority for the Dolphins, no new contract has been given to Miami’s most accomplished offensive piece.
New Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley spoke with the South Florida media on Tuesday and had this to say about Achane’s decision to stay away from the team for the time being.
[Contract] talks are for another time between Achane, Sully and those guys. So, I’m not going to dive into those talks right now. Honestly, that’s part of the business. It’s part of what every team goes through in those situations and they’ll work it out.
Through his first three seasons in the National Football League, Achane has rushed for 3,057 yards on 544 attempts — good for 5.6 yards per carry. His yards per carry mark leads all running backs in the NFL with at least 100 rush attempts during that time period. Achane has also caught 172 passes for 1,277 yards during his three-year NFL career. He has totaled 35 touchdowns since becoming a member of the Miami Dolphins.
