Every year, NFL fans seem to narrow their focus of the NFL Draft on just a couple of players. If their team doesn’t take those players, they’re idiots. Give them harsh grades! Send the general manager packing! We’re doomed for years to come!
But on this week’s PODcast, we take a different approach to our pre-draft coverage for the Detroit Lions. Rather than focus on one or two players, we take a bigger look at the possibilities early in the draft. We talk about the best possible outcomes that could happen for the Lions, and conversely, the absolutely nightmarish outcomes that could happen on draft day.
Our discussion is wide-ranging, and a lot of it is centered around the tackle position. Is it possible the top offensive line prospects could be gone by the time the Lions are on the clock? Could a tackle-needy team jump the Lions? We discuss the likelihood that Detroit will have a top-tier player fall to them given the needs of the teams ahead of them.
As for the best case scenario, we’re a bit all over the place. Some prefer an outcome that could result in the Lions stockpiling picks for later in the draft and even in 2027. Some dream of a case in which the Lions could possibly trade up and still nab the best offensive line prospect in the draft. We have a long discussion on the pros and cons of each outcome.
But before we get into that big discussion, we put to bed the discussion on Rod Wood, Frank Ragnow’s signing bonus, and the potential decline of Lions culture. There’s also a short discussion on the re-signing of Avonte Maddox and what it does and doesn’t mean.
