Athletes raring to get back to work are in luck as the NFL announces offseason workout dates for each club.

The idea behind voluntary offseason workout programs is to allow players to train and work on their conditioning. NFL.com reports the Detroit Lions’ first day is April 20, with offseason workouts May 27-29, June 2-4, and June 9-11, and mandatory minicamp June 16-17.

As an annual refresher, the nine-week offseason program happens in three phases:

  • Phased One is the first two weeks of the program and can only involve meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation.
  • Phase Two is the following three weeks. On-field workouts can involve individual or group drills that are conducted at a walk-through pace. Live contact is not allowed, nor are team offense vs. team defense drills.
  • Phase Three is the final four weeks, where teams can conduct up to 10 days of OTAs, or organized team practice activities. Still no live contact, but 7-on-7, 9-on-9, and 11-on-11 drills are allowed.

Teams can hold a mandatory minicamp for veterans during Phase Three. New head coaches can hold another voluntary veteran minicamp prior to the NFL Draft, and 10 clubs plan to do so this season.

Clubs can also hold a rookie development program for seven weeks starting as early as May 11.

All but the Denver Broncos will open their facilities to players in April. Here’s a look at what all 32 teams are doing this year:

And onto the rest of your notes.

  • Feed Post of the Day: A recent post on the Feed from Anakinspyroar expressed some frustration over a few letters I’ve also seen recently thrown around — SOL. The business regarding the Lions forcing Frank Ragnow to repay a portion of his signing bonus left a few folks wondering if the Lions are getting back into their old ways, perhaps old ways that caused a giant rift with Lions legend Calvin Johnson. Here’s the post if you’d like to check it out:

SOL

I’m starting to hear these letters being thrown around again And it’s pissing me off. What the lions did to ragnow was scummy but people are now convincing themselves that it’s been pure luck our success and that SOL is back. Not only this but some fans want Dan to leave so that he can go get a SB somewhere else. This can’t be the majority opinion right?
