Sean McVay reacts to the Los Angeles Rams third loss of the season

Sean McVay reacted post-game to the Los Angeles Rams losing to the Chicago Bears, and falling to a 1-3 record on the season. McVay spoke for a few minutes and per usual he discussed a number of topics, but early on in the presser he blamed “uncharacteristic mistakes” and mental errors that led to today’s disappointing loss.

“The guys stayed in the fight. There was some good things…but there was some really uncharacteristic mistakes that we made as a team in regards to just some mental errors where we left people free, and you can’t do that if you’re gonna be a good offense and consistently execute. Certainly we’ll go back to work, everybody has a hand in this and we can all be better, it always starts with me…disappointed for our group, but excited about testing our resolve like this season has already done in a handful of instances.”

The Rams were uncharacteristically blown out in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals. Otherwise, LA has played close games including pulling out a dramatic come from behind win against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3. The head coach seems to believe there are things to improve upon despite LA having some truly unfortunate luck with regard to injury.

What will be challenging for the Rams is that even with a healthy squad there was going to be little room for error. With an injured offense there is even less room for error as the veteran unit has not consistently done enough to help a young and developing defense under Chris Shula.

The Seattle Seahawks have a chance at being 4-0 after Monday’s games. Even if Seattle loses, the Rams officially have a hole to dig themselves out of if they want to stay in the playoff race. Will McVay be able to get his players ready to bounce back in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers? Or will the Rams fall to 1-4 before their Week 6 bye?

As bleak as it may look for LA there are still meaningful games left to play, and at this point that is all McVay and the team can ask for.
