Although his timeline to return is still unknown, the Miami Dolphins are expected to get wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. back in the coming weeks. #GoFins

The Miami Dolphins may get back an essential piece to the offensive puzzle in the coming weeks, as veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is set to return to the practice field. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report the news.

Here’s what Pelissero had to say about Dolphins’ WR OBJ in Ian Rapoport’s Sunday Morning NFL Insiders article:

Miami Dolphins WR Odell Beckham: Beckham did not take part in training camp and began the year on the PUP list after recovering from a procedure. The plan has been to open his practice window this week, sources tell colleague Tom Pelissero, but things remain fluid and his return timeline is to be determined.

Beckahm Jr. signed a one-year deal worth up to $3 Million this offseason to play for the Dolphins. And although he has yet to see the field, his role in the offense should be considerable once he fully immerses himself into the 2024 NFL Season.

Here’s what McDaniel said earlier in the year when discussing what type of value Beckham Jr. can add to Miami’s offense.

“I think in the offseason you’re constantly trying to find ways for your team to get better. That’s what Chris (Grier) and I solely focus on, and I think you want a situation where all parties see the same vision. I think I presented the opportunities that playing here could provide and sat down and just communicated with a guy that I’ve followed his career since its onset. He’s fully done right by my draft grade as a receiver coach, by the way, just in case you were wondering. And we hit it off. I could see there’s a passion for football still at the forefront of his mind, and he saw the fit so we were happy to make our team better and afford his skillset.”

Throughout his 10-year NFL Career, Odell Beckham Jr. has 566 receptions for 7,932 yards and 89 touchdowns. The playmaking wide receiver made a name for himself with the New York Giants, with stops with the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams, and most recently, the Baltimore Ravens.

But OBJ saw an opportunity to continue to play football at a high level in an offense that looked very similar to what he’s played in before. Here’s what OBJ said after signing with the Dolphins back in May.

“Just watching the film, just seeing what it is, it kind of reminds me of a place where I had a lot of success at as far as the Giants and timing and all those things he talks about and preaches….We sat down for hours and we were just talking football. It just got me excited thinking about it. He pulled up my film compared to what they’re doing here and just kind of married the things. I’ve seen an opportunity, and I think time will tell at the end that this was the right decision.”

He continued:

“There’s just a lot of room for opportunity looking at it. I think that it will be a great matchup. I think we all have different skillsets, but all the same skillsets in one – all people who make plays. I’m just looking forward to the opportunity.”

As of today, the Dolphins WR3 is technically not a wide receiver. And if Miami wants to get away from force-feeding running back De’Von Achane, adding an experienced, former WR1 to McDaniel’s struggling offense — when they desperately need the help — might be the perfect remedy.

Oh yeah, and let’s not forget, OBJ has plenty of familiarity with Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley, the Dolphins starting quarterback for Monday Night’s matchup vs. the Tennessee Titans.

What are your thoughts on Odell Beckham Jr. returning to the practice field? Do you think he can help Miami’s struggling offense? Are you surprised he’s preparing to return with a Week 6 BYE right around the corner? Let us know in the comments section below!
