The Cincinnati Bengals signed 14-year veteran QB Josh Johnson to a one year contract today, the team announced.
Johnson was a fifth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers out of the University of San Diego all the way back in 2008.
He has played for seven teams in his career, including the Cincinnati Bengals back in 2013, though he didn’t throw a pass that year.
In addition to the Bengals, Johnson has had two stints with the Baltimore Ravens and Washington, perhaps an indication that he is well-liked.
Across 50 total games played, Johnson has thrown for 2,669 yards with 14 touchdowns and 18 interceptions and a completion percentage of 58.7. He spent last year with the Commanders and threw 54 passes in five games.
Clearly, the Bengals front office saw the value of having a veteran QB on the roster to back up Joe Burrow. Of course, the addition of Johnson, who is almost 40 years old, probably means that Joe Flacco won’t be returning to Cincinnati.
