When the Los Angeles Rams needed cornerback help last offseason, they wisely avoided signing free agent Jaire Alexander. Following his odd saga with the Eagles after being acquired from Baltimore, the Rams proved correct to avoid the former All-Pro.
Green Bay released Alexander in June 2025 after back-to-back injury-riddled campaigns. At the time, he seemed like a no-brainer addition for L.A., yet Sean McVay downplayed the interest:
“Nothing but respect for the player, but I don’t know if that’s a direction we would go,” via Rams senior writer Stu Jackson in a June 10 article.
The Louisville product signed with the Ravens nine days after his Packers release. His tenure in Baltimore lasted only two games before he was traded to Philadelphia in November. Somehow, his time with the Eagles was even shorter.
Alexander never suited up for the then-defending Super Bowl champions and announced he was stepping away from football to focus on his mental and physical health 10 days after the trade. In a show of good faith, he paid back the Eagles despite again, not appearing in a game for them.
It was just an incredibly odd saga from the start, and truly a shame to see. During his prime, Alexander was one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL. The only problem was that his body failed him, preventing him from truly unlocking his full potential in the league. Alexander seemed like a genuine guy away from football, and he deserves all the best in his time away from the game.
Still, the Rams were proven correct by not signing Alexander last offseason and avoided a headache that two organizations were forced to deal with. Further proof that sometimes the best moves are the ones you don’t make.
