The Las Vegas Raiders have been extremely active in free agency (on the first day) as they signed six free agents.
They, however, still have some work to do to fil some holes. With the salary cap going to be tighter with the unexpected return of star defensive end Maxx Crosby, the Raiders may have trouble adding more than a few more veterans on the market.
One of the positions they may look at in free agency is running back where they want a backup to second-year starter Ashton Jeanty as new head coach Klint Kubiak is on the record as saying.
While the Raiders could go to the draft to find a backup to Jeanty, it makes sense that they bring in a veteran However, the choices are getting slim.
There was little chance they were going to the top of the market with Kenneth Walker (who won a Super Bowl with Kubiak last season) and Travis Etienne.
Players that seemed to fit more were complimentary backs who can catch the ball out of the backfield like Kenneth Gainwell and Rachaad White. However, Gainwell left Pittsburgh for Tampa Bay and Thursday, White left Tampa Bay for Washington. White was with Las Vegas general manager John Spytek in Tampa Bay.
Other possible targets Rico Dowdle and Tyler Allgeier are off the board as well. Brian Robinson of the San Francisco 49ers is available as are Raiders’ free agent Raheem Mostert and Zamir White. Others include Travis Homer, Antonio Gibson and Najee Harris.
