As the whole Maxx Crosby ordeal has been playing out the past few days, people have brought up another shady dealing by the Ravens. The Eagles traded for Jaire Alexander last year, and a week later, the veteran cornerback decided to step away from football to focus on his physical and mental health as he recovered from knee surgery.
The topic came back up, which prompted many to ask if there were any kind of resolution to a trade gone bad. It turns out, there was, it just wasn’t made public until now. Adam Schefter reports that the Eagles received an $889,000 salary cap credit, and the corresponding cash was re-paid to the team, although Philadelphia did still lose the sixth-round pick they exchanged with Baltimore for their seventh-rounder.
“Because of that, the Eagles received $500,000 from the Ravens and $389,000 from Alexander to cover part of his signing bonus and one week’s salary, sources said. The Eagles also received a salary cap credit even though the amount had not counted against their cap when the trade was made, sources said.”
It seemed like the Eagles were doing the Ravens a favor last year by not throwing them under the bus for how things went down, but it’s always good to see that they didn’t get taken advantage of, either.
