Micah McFadden played only 12 snaps for the New York Giants in 2025. That was a disappointing outcome in a contract year for the 2022 fifth-round pick, who is back with the Giants on a one-year deal.
The market for McFadden, and the price he could command in free agency, was obviously impacted by his lack of action in 2025. Still, McFadden said during a Zoom call on Wednesday that there were “some other possibilities” for him outside the Giants.
“There were some conversations going on,” McFadden said. “But I had spoken with the coaching staff and some people in the building over the weekend, and I knew that there was a possibility that they wanted me back, and I was excited to hear that from them.”
McFadden’s deal is for $3.75 million, with $2.9 million guaranteed. He has $2 million in incentives that could bring the deal to $5.75 million.
McMadden returns to a team with a new head coach in John Harbaugh and a new defensive coordinator in Dennard Wilson.
“I’m really excited, I think it [Harbaugh] was a phenomenal hire,” McFadden said. “I got to speak with the coaches and John this morning. I’m really excited to be a part. I think they got a great thing going that they have been building around here. And I’m excited to be in this scheme. Bringing in Tremaine [Edmunds] I think was a great addition as well, and I’m excited to get in the room with him and learn from him and learn with him and put this thing together as we get going in the offseason program.”
McFadden, entering his age 26 season, understands that the new Giants regime might not be done adding talent at his off-ball linebacker spot.
“Obviously it will be a competitive room,” McFadden said. “I think they will continue to bring guys in, and that’s no surprise, it’s the NFL. But, yeah, my thing is I’m going to go out there, compete and go and try and win a starting job, and go put my best foot forward during this off-season and into training camp and we’ll see where it falls after that.”
McFadden said he won’t have any limitations when the Giants begin their offseason program in a few weeks.
“I’ve improved a lot. Even since the end of the year. But getting hurt game one you have a lot of time to recover after that,” McFadden said. “Working with the Giants and getting back to a place where I was able to go back home and kind of start my normal offseason program, working out and running and doing everything I need to do to play football this year.”
