As the NFL free agency negotiating window, which begins on Monday, nears it looks like the possibility that free agent center Tyler Linderbaum will be joining the New York Giants is becoming more remote.
The league’s current highest-paid center, Creed Humphrey of the Kansas City Chiefs, makes $18 million per year. Linderbaum is expected to command a market-resetting offer of $20 million or more annually. Long-time NFL columnist Gary Myers said earlier this week that the three-time Pro Bowler was “going to be much too expensive” for the Giants.
Ian O’Connor of The Athletic, who was out front with news updates during the Giants’ pursuit of head coach John HJarbaugh, seconded that notion. O’Connor on Sunday said “don’t expect the Giants to spend big” on Linderbaum. O’Connor, in fact hinted at a volume approach for the Giants, saying they “have too many holes to fill to throw a truckload of cash at a singular star.”
A report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz on Sunday indicated Linderbaum could be headed to the Washington Commanders if he does not return to the Ravens.
CB Jamel Dean to the Giants?
In a post listing landing spots for his top 30 free agents, the one player from that group Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post has coming to the Giants is Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Jamel Dean.
The Giants do need cornerback help, especially is they do not re-sign Cor’Dale Flott.
The Athletic projects a three-year, $54 million contract for the 29-year-old Dean. It says:
Dean is a big, thick cornerback with size and speed. He is an easy mover, but he has struggled with injuries in his career. Dean missed four games with a foot injury in 2023. He also suffered a back injury in the playoffs that season. In 2024, he landed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He also missed time with a knee injury that season. In 2025, he missed three games with a hip flexor injury.
Travis Kelce incoming?
For the past few weeks, the idea that Taylor Swift might arm twist her soon-to-be hubby to leave Kansas City for the Big Apple has been floated.
Dunleavy lists the Giants as a possible landing spot for the 36-year-old, but predicts he will stay with the chiefs if he does not retire.
I have to agree. If Kelce continues to play, I can’t see him finishing his career anywhere other than Kansas City.
The Giants’ Big 3
Wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson seems headed elsewhere, with a reunion with Brian Daboll in Tennessee sounding like a strong possibility. Flott’s market is tough to figure, as is the Giants’ true interest in keeping him.
The one player everyone seems to agree the Giants really want back is right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor.
Eluemunor’s recent comment that “I believe I’m the best right tackle in the league, and my film proves it” tells you he won’t take a discount to stay in New York.
Dunleavy has Eluemunor joining Daboll and offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo in Tennessee. I’m not buying that. Eluemunor does not want to move to guard, and I can’t see the Titans moving 2024 first-round pick JC Latham from right tackle to guard to accommodate Eluemunor.
