As the Miami Dolphins weigh the pros and cons of cutting franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa — Post-June 1st, of course — several other QB dominoes are preparing to fall.
For quite some time, Miami has been rumored to be interested in Green Bay Packers free-agent QB Malik Willis. We even heard Jimmy Garoppolo may be an option. Now, the team is linked to another free agent veteran QB — only this one may come at a much more reasonable price tag.
According to Sports Illustrated’s NFL Insider Albert Breer, the teams most likely to target Murray in free agency are the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins, and, of course, the New York Jets. Here’s what Albert wrote in Thursday’s mailbag:::
“The obvious one, as we said earlier, is Minnesota. Who else? Well, the Jets could potentially give him a shot to start, and the Dolphins might be interested. Getting him at the minimum for a year would make sense for a team carrying all the Tua Tagovailoa money into 2026 (after presumably cutting him). The Colts and Falcons are in a separate category.”
During his seven seasons in Arizona, Murray completed 67.1% of his passes for 20,460 yards, 121 touchdowns, and 60 interceptions. He also added 532 carries for 3,193 yards and 32 touchdowns — a true duel-threat quarterback, who, despite his recent ups and downs, still has the ability to be a game-changer in this league.
As mentioned, Murray will likely play for the league minimum this upcoming season, for a team of his choosing.
Could that be the Dolphins?
I know it feels like a lifetime ago, but there was once a time I was very fond of Murray and had hoped — somehow, someway — he’d end up in Miami. I’m not so sure that’s what’s best for the 28-year-old QB to regain his footing, but if things fall through with Minnesota and New York, he could be the best value for a team looking to stay afloat amid a shit-storm of dead cap space.
