The Bengals’ rookie right tackle is now a full-time starter after Trent Brown went down.

The Cincinnati Bengals are gearing up for a true must-win game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon.

The Bengals were stunned, for the second time this season, inside of Paycor Stadium, falling to the Washington Commanders and dropping to 0-3 on the year.

One storyline from the gut-wrenching loss is the beginning of the Amarius Mims era after a brutal season-ending injury to Trent Brown.

Mims stepped in and played very well for his first real NFL action outside of training camp.

The rookie tackle gave up a sack, but it looked like a miscommunication rather than the first-round pick being badly beaten.

Mims shared his thoughts about his first start this weekend and his excitement about going out to protect Joe Burrow.

“If your confidence level is not high in this game, you will not be good. No matter what happens, good or bad, your confidence level has to be at 100 percent,” Mims said.

The rookie went back and watched the film against the Commanders and was unhappy with his play.

“I am very hard on myself and I feel like I played not up to my standard. I watched that film and film on the guy I am going up against (this weekend), and I am really just self-correcting and trying to find out what I can do to not make those same mistakes again.”

Mims already has a professional mindset, which will hopefully help him blossom into the franchise right tackle the Bengals desperately need.
