Miami Dolphins Discussion: Which Players In Their Final Year Should Be Extended Edition

Our Miami Dolphins have a lot of questions to answer this offseason regarding the roster, which already had some glaring holes/major needs before the season ended. With every cut and potentially every trade away of a player, the new regime creates more holes that they need to fill. With little money to spend in free agency and 8 draft picks in April, it seems as if there are more holes to fill than resources to do so at this point. One of the questions the front office must ask is: which players currently in the final season of their contract should the team extend beyond the 2026 season, assuming they want to keep them through this coming season to begin with?

The list includes a player that we have already discussed, running back De’Von Achane. The responses on whether the team should extend him were mixed, with some believing that extending the best player on offense was a must, while others believed that he should be traded when his value is high or if the return is high enough. Wideout Tyreek Hill was on the list but cut for obvious cap reasons, which only seems all the smarter with him coming off injury. Wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikine was another player on that list, but as we all know, he was also already set free before the new league season even began.

Linebacker Jordyn Brooks is on the list and has seemingly proven he deserves an extension. Right tackle Austin Jackson is another player that they will need to decide on, and some believe may be cut following his very up-and-down career with the Phins. Kicker Jason Sanders is coming into his final contract year, but may be expendable given that it was proven that you can find a reliable kicker for less money last season. Center Aaron Brewer played at a Pro Bowl level in 2025 and seems like a likely candidate for an extension. Linebacker Tyrel Dodson, who has played well, is also rumored to be a possible cap casualty, but an extension for an additional season or two could alleviate the size of the cap hit for 2026.

Another player in the final year of his deal is center Andrew Meyer, who played in his first-ever regular-season game last season in week 17. Storm Duck, who is popular with many fans, is also in the final year of his deal and is most likely not a long-term answer at corner, but could serve as a long-term depth option as he continues to develop. The last player on the list is Julius Brents, another corner, who is likely a cap casualty as well, saving almost $ 2 million. Brents ended the 2025 season on IR.

So this evening’s question of the day is:

Which player going into the final season of their contract would you like to see our Miami Dolphins extend beyond 2026, and why? Additionally, which additional players on the list would you like to see the team send packing and why?
