Giants news, 2/25: Combine takeaways, futures of Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

One hot topic for every team at the 2026 NFL combine: Quarterback contracts, Kelce’s future | The Athletic

It may sound too simple, but we’re just curious how John Harbaugh approaches his first combine as the New York Giants coach. After more than a month on the job, there’s been no respite for the new coach while assembling a new staff. Now attention turns to free agency and the draft, and we’ll get a better sense of the kinds of players Harbaugh will be looking to add. Plus, this will be the first opportunity to see the new staff in action. There’s a lot of roster questions, especially pertaining to key free agents such as RT Jermaine Eluemunor and WR Wan’Dale Robinson, which we’re curious about. But my biggest focus will be to see how Harbaugh’s approach to the combine has evolved in his first year with a new team in nearly two decades.

Why John Harbaugh’s presence will make Joe Schoen a better GM for Giants | The Record

This was never about power, not in the sense of the New York Giants taking power away from Joe Schoen as general manager and giving it to John Harbaugh as head coach.

It’s about restoring the pride in a franchise that, no matter how much they talk it, actually feeling the emotion and gravity of that isn’t for everybody to appreciate.

Top 101 NFL free agents of 2026: Who are the best players available? | NFL.com

21. Wan’Dale Robinson WR Age: 25. Robinson caught 185 passes over the last two seasons from a variety of quarterbacks. His improvement on intermediate and deeper throws shows he can help any offense.

23. Jermaine Eluemunor OT Age: 31. Eluemunor has improved from being a part-time player to one of the most consistent pass-protecting right tackles in football.

57. Cordale Flott CB Age: 25. I’m as surprised to rank Flott this highly as the Giants surely would be to see him here, given the way they kept trying to play former first-round pick Deonte Banks over him. Flott gave us no choice!

Assessing every NFL team’s rookie class | PFF

From Week 4, when Dart got the starting gig, to the end of the season, the rookie passer registered a pretty pedestrian 64.8 PFF passing grade with 19 big-time throws and 15 turnover-worthy plays. But it wasn’t the passing that made him special. Dart’s 75.3 PFF rushing grade ranked seventh among all quarterbacks with at least 50 rushing attempts, and he rumbled for 487 yards (third at the position) at 5.7 yards per carry (fifth among qualifying quarterbacks) and nine rushing touchdowns. Dart finished as the QB14 (248.6 points) and would have probably been a solid QB1 option had he started from Week 1 and been able to avoid concussions with safer running.

That same running style could also be attributed to backfield mate Cam Skattebo. Among players with at least 100 attempts through the first eight weeks of the season, Skattebo was the third-highest-graded rusher (81.0), behind only James Cook (90.4 PFF rushing grade) and Jonathan Taylor (83.4 PFF rushing grade). Though his running style is punishing, he also has some wiggle to him, forcing 22 missed tackles (tied for 11th among qualifying rushers). He ended the season as the RB37 (127.7 points), but before the injury, the rookie rusher was the RB8.

Trader Joe

5. New York Giants: Caleb Downs, S, Ohio State. Downs, who spent three college seasons playing at an All-America level for Alabama (one) and Ohio State (two), will reignite the debate over positional value. The last safety to be picked in the top 10 was Jamal Adams by the Jets at No. 6 in 2017. Since then, Minkah Fitzpatrick (No. 11 to the Dolphins in 2018) and Kyle Hamilton (No. 14 to the Ravens in 2022) are the only safeties selected in the top 15. Downs (6-feet, 205 pounds) is not as big as the 6-4 Hamilton and hasn’t shown the slot corner skills that Fitzpatrick flashed during a brilliant career at Alabama. But we’ll stick with the high-floor approach and give the Giants a player who, at worst, can be the leader of a secondary for a long time.
