Other Giant observations

Thursday Night Football Statistical Review: Cowboys hold on against Giants | PFF

According to PFF’s noise-canceled score metric, the game was even closer than the actual score. The Cowboys moved the ball slightly better and more efficiently via early downs, but they certainly escaped defeat by stopping the Giants from converting on both of their red-zone opportunities.

But until the results change, any satisfaction in elements of that performance brings with it an emptiness of missed opportunity and a feeling of regret.

“I’m not sure you come to peace with anything,” inside linebacker Bobby Okereke said. “Not when you don’t get the outcome you want, the one we expect.”

The 1-3 Giants walked out of MetLife Stadium on Thursday night in a familiar spot: last place in the NFC East. They’ll get a mini-bye to regroup before a Week 5 matchup at the 3-0 Seahawks. A quarter of the season is in the books. The clock is ticking to show some results.

“We don’t feel good,” quarterback Daniel Jones said. “We don’t feel good about losing. We didn’t do enough to win, and we’re frustrated. We’re not discouraged. I think we’re still confident in our team and what we can do, but no, we don’t feel good about losing.”

Even in defeat, Giants rookie Nabers credited as a ‘problem’ by Cowboys defenders trying to slow him | nj.com

Giants rookie wideout Malik Nabers drew attention from the Cowboys on the field and then praise off of it Thursday night.

“I’m very impressed with him,” said Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs. “He’s a great young player. He’s going to be really good in this league. I’m looking forward to all the battles we’re going to have.”

“Malik Nabers is a difference maker, man,” Boomer said. “I don’t know if he’ll be as good as Justin Jefferson or Davante Adams, but he’s like right there with those guys. They got this pick right…the last two games, his presence is so obvious, and he has already made like five or six terrific plays.”

It’s hard to feel good about Giants QB Daniel Jones’ progress when end result is the same | The Athletic

There are multiple examples, but the biggest was on the free play the Giants had early in the second quarter after Cowboys defensive end Carl Lawson jumped offsides. Slayton easily slipped behind the Dallas secondary and was open deep, but Jones underthrew him and was intercepted by Trevon Diggs. Of course, the interception didn’t count because of the penalty, but a good throw probably gets the Giants into the end zone.

Jones underthrew Slayton again in the fourth quarter after the receiver had gained a step on Cowboys depth cornerback Amani Oruwariye. A second-quarter shot to Malik Nabers was nearly picked off.

What’s keeping the Giants from making any real progress | New York Post

Wan’Dale Robinson had a career-high 11 receptions but he was kicking himself afterward for two drops. He had one in the red zone that “I definitely think should have been a touchdown.’’ Another killer came with 3:34 remaining and the Giants on their own 45-yard line. Jones on third-and-6 hit Robinson in stride and it should have been a substantial gain but Robinson allowed the ball to slip away. On the next play, Jones and Malik Nabers failed to connect on fourth down, a play that resulted in Nabers leaving the field with a concussion. “Obviously I’ve got to be better with that,’’ Robinson said of the missed third down.

2025 NFL Draft: Case for Michigan DL as No. 1 Overall Prospect and New Top 10 Mock | Bleacher Report

5. New York Giants: QB Carson Beck, Georgia.]Beck has the ability to stand in the pocket and pick apart opposing secondaries. He gets the ball out quickly and accurately. However, like many young quarterbacks, he struggles when pressured. His status as a potential top-10 pick will likely be confirmed or disrupted when the Bulldogs face the Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas Longhorns, Ole Miss Rebels and Tennessee Volunteers.

Daniel Bellinger on blown facemask call: I asked for an explanation and didn’t get any | Pro Football Talk

The officiating crew committed a baffling mistake on Thursday night when Giants tight end Daniel Bellinger was flagged for facemasking, even though replays showed that Bellinger didn’t grab Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown’s facemask, and instead Overshown grabbed Bellinger’s facemask. That mistake was a 30-yard swing favoring the Cowboys.

“I tried to ask an explanation. I didn’t get any,” Bellinger said. “I just saw the video, he grabbed my facemask. But it’s up to them, it’s their call. Hopefully they get it right.”

Notes & Stats: Giants vs. Cowboys Recap | Giants.com

Kayvon Thibodeaux’s 8-yard sack of Dak Prescott with 32 seconds left in the second quarter – his first full sack of the season – ended a long drought for the Giants. It was the team’s first sack of a Cowboys quarterback since Dec. 19, 2021, when Lorenzo Carter sacked Prescott for a 6-yard loss and forced a fumble that was recovered by Austin Johnson.

Rookie safety Tyler Nubin (six solo) and linebacker Micah McFadden (five) led the Giants with eight tackles apiece.

Seahawks Round-Up: Week 4 Storylines, Offensive Line Questions And More | Seahawks.com

Seattle’s offensive line ranks 31st in both pass block win rate and run block win rate, according to ESPN. Geno Smith has been pressured at the 10th-highest rate in the league (all stats provided by TruMedia unless stated otherwise). Walker benefited from good run blocking in the second half of Week 1, which is why his yards before contact average ranks 11th out of 46 qualifying running backs. Charbonnet, the starter the last two weeks in Walker’s absence, hasn’t been as fortunate; his yards before contact average ranks 45th. Overall, the Seahawks rank 27th in EPA per rush on running back carries.”

Behind Seahawks enemy lines: Previewing Week 4 vs. Detroit Lions on ‘Monday Night Football’ | Field Gulls

It’s worth remembering that offensive line issues aren’t something that will be resolved quickly. George Fant, in the best case scenario, will only return after he’s spent the necessary time on IR, and Abe Lucas was given a prognosis to return mid-season (but we know that when it comes to Lucas, the timeline is always longer, as the team has been waiting for him to be healthy for basically two years).
