The New York Giants have reportedly interviewed what might be considered an outside the box candidate for their quarterbacks coach role. Arizona State offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Marcus Arroyo has spoken to the Giants about the job, per NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo.
Arroyo, 46, was a college quarterback at San Jose State. He began his coaching career in 2003. Aside from a one-year tenure as Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterbacks coach in 2014, Arroyo has always worked at the college level.
Arroyo was head coach at UNLV for three seasons, compiling a 7-23 record from 2020-2022. He has been at Arizona State since 2024.
Arroyo has never worked for Giants head coach John Harbaugh, but does have connections to a couple of trusted Harbaugh assistants.
Arroyo worked for Todd Monken, now head coach of the Cleveland Browns, as offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at Southern Miss in 2013. Monken was Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator the past three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
Arroyo also worked for Willie Taggart, now the Giants’ running backs coach, at Oregon in 2017.
Giants’ running back Cam Skattebo played for Arroyo at Arizona State in 2024.
Harbaugh’s long-time quarterbacks coach with the Ravens, Tee Martin, is also available after having been fired by new Baltimore coach Jesse Minter. It would not be surprising to see Martin connected to the Giants job, but so far there have been no reports of Martin interviewing with Harbaugh.
